Sibin Speakeasy

Sibin Speakeasy is a secret bar at Great Scotland Yard Hotel - all you have to do is find it. Shimmy through the unassuming bookcase and you'll uncover this sexy drinking den, before getting stuck into over 170 whiskies from around the world or sipping cocktails.

The decor is traditional and elegant, complete with dark wooden walls and plush armchairs. What's more, they host live jazz and whisky masterclasses on a regular basis.

Evans & Peel Detective Agency

  • Why we recommend: this is one of the most immersive speakeasies out there, involving a secret door to enter, a private detective and even live jazz music

Found hidden away behind a secret door in Earl's Court, Evans & Peel Detective Agency is the Prohibition-style bar offering up swish surrounds for date nights and get-togethers with friends alike. Expect American bites, live music and plenty of heady cocktails.

You'll begin by seeing their private detective, who will work on cracking your file as he lets you into their speakeasy via a hidden door. The immersion continues, thanks to the cocktail menu inspired by notorious crooks and live jazz from Thursday to Saturday.

The Natural Philosopher

  • Why we recommend: they've got one of the largest drinks selections around, a particularly great choice for whisky lovers

With its dark and moody interiors, exposed brick walls and leather seating, The Natural Philosopher transports you back to the speakeasy bars of old. Hidden away behind The MacSmith's repair shop, it serves up one of the finest selections of whiskies this side of London.

If a wee dram's not for you, there's all kinds of craft beer, highballs and classic cocktails to wet your whistle. Whatever your tipple, the secret's out - this is one mighty fine place to drink it.

CellarDoor

A sleek, modern evolution of the speakeasy, Supermax hides beneath King's Cross behind an unassuming entrance, opening up into a low-lit world of Italian disco glamour. The design is pure 1970s Milan, with neon, leather, terrazzo and a spectacular disco ball creating an intimate, retro-futurist vibe that sets it apart.

The bar's Italian-inspired cocktails are as theatrical as the space itself, from the signature Maxcalita to a flaming Albicocca, and the music policy is a cut above: Italo pop, leftfield disco, deep house and more. A swanky speakeasy just a few steps from the Thames, The Bootlegger is a hidden gem in Richmond, bringing the 1920s vibe to the 21st century. They host regular live music events, as well as bottomless brunches every Saturday.

Come down to this Prohibition-era-inspired venue to sip on classic cocktails, groove to jazz, and savour deliciously inspired grub for a night to remember - think pizza, small plates and sharers.

The Knox

Nestled underneath Swift Borough, Back Pocket is an intimate speakeasy-style bar that you seriously need to have on your hit list. Make your way over to the basement drinking den for low lighting and leather sofas, not to mention heady cocktails galore.

This intimate space doesn't compromise on cocktails, with its own dedicated menu of creative sips. Our favourite? The Silverburn, made with tequila, strawberry, lime and hibiscus.

BÓHA London

If you're looking for luxury, BÓHA in Chelsea is always a top choice. This stylish venue can be found on King's Road, filled with pretty foliage and serving up a sumptuous menu or British and Irish cuisine.

Head downstairs to find The Shibeen, a 1920s-inspired speakeasy bar that's known for it's late-night DJ sets, signature, handcrafted cocktails and selection of tasty small plates.

Opium

Basement Sate

Venture below the streets of Soho where you'll uncover one of the best hidden bars around. Basement State is specialising in sophisticated sips, with plush leather armchairs and low lighting paired with an unusual drinks menu.

Our favourite signature sips include the Young Cuban or a Hint of Coconut. They also offer almost as many alcohol-free cocktails, and there are drink-making classes on offer as well.

The Lucky Pig Fitzrovia

  • Why we recommend: these guys have got one of the most extensive cocktail menus around, and you can even try your hand at creating some of them yourself

The Lucky Pig is Fitzrovia is one of the best secretive party palaces around. Perfect for date nights and fun birthday celebrations, the venue has intimate cubby holes, dazzling drinks and a scrumptious food menu - think cheese boards and yummy pizza.

The vintage decor is inspired by the art deco movement, with plenty of cosy corners alongside the dancefloor. They also offer cocktail masterclasses, where you can learn to make a wide range of inventive concoctions - as well as the classics.

Cocktail Akademia

  • Why we recommend: this South London destination provides a lot of space, but their second floor speakeasy is perfect for something a little more secluded

Find swanky speakeasy vibes in Bromley at Cocktail Akademia. While the venue spans four floors, the second storey provides the cosy, intimate vibe of a secret bar. Specialising in all things boozy, the crafted drinks menu is a sight to behold for lovers of quirky serves.

Expect green chilli margaritas, smoked grapefruit negronis and much more. The drinks are best enjoy in their brooding tropical-themed bar area, featuring dip lighting and vintage sofas. 

Found

  • Location: 129 City Road, Shoreditch, EC1V 1JB
  • Why we recommend: with a limited menu of cocktails, you can be sure that everything this place serves is excellent

A cool basement cranny situated underneath Casita, Found is up there with London's best speakeasies. A hidden gem on the vintage scene, this bar is serving up a limited number of cocktails, but you can be sure that they're of first-class quality.

Expect exposed brick walls, dark wooden furniture and low lighting, all tucked away at the bottom of a secretive staircase. 

Engel Bar

  • Location: The Mezzanine, Royal Exchange, EC3V 3LQ
  • Why we recommend: we love the gorgeous, art deco interiors here, perfect for snapping a few pictures while you eat and drink

Discover London's Hidden Gem: Engel Bar Escape to the enchanting Engel Bar, a hidden speakeasy tucked away in the iconic Grade I-listed Royal Exchange. Just a stone's throw from Bank station, this 1920s Berlin-inspired bar boasts stunning Art Deco details, graceful arches, and cozy armchairs with courtyard views.

Moonshine Minnie's

Meet Moonshine Minnie's: a slinky bar below The Blues Kitchen. Hit up the swoon-worthy Shoreditch haunt where you can enjoy classic whiskey cocktails, delicious southern American bar snacks, and all that hidden atmosphere you've been looking for.

The basement space is also beautifully decorated, featuring Victorian tiles, rope panelling and a quirky stained glass ceiling that fills the room with colour.

Jack Solomons Club

Tucked away in the heart of Soho, Jack Solomons Club's grand columns, back-lit bar and plush seating give sophisticated speakeasy vibes. Serving up succulent small plates and handcrafted cocktails, it's perfect for a post-work drink, a dreamy date or an all-night celebration.

Get down here when the bands are playing and the whole place gets even more soulful. Expect live jazz, soul, blues and piano music to accompany your signature serve.

The Candlelight Club

Inspired by 1920s-style glamour, The Candlelight Club is one of Central London's best speakeasy bars. This Prohibition-themed evening is the perfect stop-off for lip-smacking cocktails and three-course immersive dining experiences, which are accompanied by live jazz entertainment.

The event takes place at a secret location, revealed closer to the time, and a 20s dress code is encouraged. As well as the fantastic food, drink and music, you can expect the likes of tarot readers, sketch artists and even a pop-up vintage jewellery shop.

The Arts Theatre Club

The Arts Theatre Club is a glamorous members-only escape mixing up punchy libations in a Prohibition-era setting. Head to the Soho hangout with a pal and share a teapot concoction or some signature cocktails in luxury.

This exclusive spot is filled with opulent decor, from the plush velvet sofas to hanging red lights and old-school portraits on the walls. You'll often find DJs spinning retro tunes here as well.

MUSE at RSA House

If you're looking for a speakeasy-style cocktail bar but with a modern, refined twist, MUSE at RSA House should be your go to. Tucked away within The Royal Society for Arts, this hidden gem in Covent Garden offers an intimate, warmly lit space that's ideal for special dates and sophisticated cocktails with friends. 

The drinks menu, designed by cocktail expert Marcis Dzelainis, champions the finest local ingredients, source from artisan producers, with sustainability in mind. Think the Cucumber & Tonic, made with in-house made cucumber distillate, as well as other signatures made with wild herbs and low-waste techniques.

SOMA Soho

  • Why we recommend: we love this one for a date, especially thanks to the curtained-off sections for something more intimate

From the team behind the much-loved contemporary Indian eatery Kricket is SOMA Soho, a minimal and low-lit speakeasy. This gorgeous bar serves up refined cocktails with creative twists, like a chaat margarita, blueberry lassi and a cashew negroni.

The romantic space is filled with sleek grey decor and lots of cosy hideaways, making it a perfect pick for date night.

Barts

  • Why we recommend: for anyone who's all about the visuals in a bar, this place truly delivers - though that doesn't mean that the drinks aren't fantastic too

Tucked away inside Chelsea Cloisters, Barts channels a prohibition era apartment with bold, ruby wallpaper and shelves of vintage bric‑a‑brac. Ring the bell, give the password at the hatch and you'll step into a low-lit living room of fancy seating and candlelit tables.

Expect plenty of theatre with your drinks as mixologists craft stone cold classics and creative signatures before your eyes. Think servings from tea pots, glasses hidden in paper bags and tipples set ablaze.

Ginger Lily Bar and Lounge

Inspired by the sultry speakeasy, Ginger Lily is an ideal spot for those illicit-style sips in the chic space. It boasts a simple, dark colour scheme, with a black marble bar and grey armchairs to relax in.

Located in Pan Pacific London on Liverpool Street, this pretty venue has a great deal of tasty concoctions and Singaporean food, which is sure to hit the spot. They even serve afternoon tea as well.

Nightjar Shoreditch

Shoreditch Nightjar is transporting you back in time, courtesy of its Prohibition-esque interiors and live tunes. The menu will see you working your way through the eras, starting with stunning cocktails from the 1600s all the way up until early noughties' serves.

This place is renowned across the world, having won multiple awards. They host live music from 9pm throughout the week too, focusing on jazz.

The Luggage Room

  • Why we recommend: this speakeasy really makes you feel like you've stepped back in time, and the jazz soundtrack creates a glamourous ambiance

From luxe interiors to artfully hand-crafted cocktails, The Luggage Room is all about Prohibition chic. Not only will the Mayfair bar provide you with a charming setting to relax in, but they'll also be playing jazz tunes to really immerse you in the era.
