Description
Tucked inside the Chelsea Cloisters, Barts plays at being “Uncle Barts’” private apartment - a 1920s hideout dressed in ruby wallpaper, comic‑strip curios, and shelves of vintage bric‑a‑brac. You ring, give the password at the hatch, and step into a low‑lit living room of tufted seats, candlelit tables and a fancy‑dress trunk that’s made for mischief. Slip through to the foliage‑filled Secret Garden (heated and covered) and it’s all Havana hints and late‑night whispers away from Sloane Avenue.
The draw is playful theatre backed by serious bartending. Expect classics done right alongside cheeky signatures served in teapots, hidden in paper bags or set ablaze; there’s a considered list of spirits, Champagne and sharers for groups too, and DJs on peak nights keep the energy up without stealing the room. Opened in 2009 by Inception Group - the team behind Mr Fogg’s, Cahoots, Maggie’s and Bunga 90 - Barts helped kick‑start the city’s modern speakeasy wave and continues to earn kudos for the experiential feel.
