Feeling like you want to splash the cash? If only the very best will do for your next meal out, you'll be eyeing up the top venues around. From local chefs whipping up contemporary British fare to Indian fine dining and eateries in Georgian mansions, here are the best Michelin star restaurants in Birmingham.

Satori

Satori brings Japanese tradition and modern artistry to the heart of Moseley. Inspired by the concept of Satori—a moment of awakening or enlightenment—every dish is designed to supercharge your senses. It's little wonder this place gets a shout out in the Michelin Guide.

Expect intriguingly innovative plates of signature black cod, tea-smoked miso aubergine and the show-stopping wagyu tataki. The choices to wet your whistle are just as exciting. We're talking wines, beers and all kinds of sake.

Riverine Rabbit

The stunning Riverine Rabbit brings South African flavour and British seasonality to Stirchley. Since opening its doors in 2024, it's racked up all kinds of acclaim, including a Michelin Bib Gourmand.

With just 12 covers, it's an intimate and highly-coveted spot for a bite to eat. The menu is well and truly show-stopping, packing in the likes of honey‑cured beef, tom yum and furikake.

Plates By Purnell's

Looking for a unique dining experience in Birmingham? Plates By Purnell's is the newest addition to Michelin-starred chef Glynn Purnell's impressive collection of restaurants, offering a tapas-style menu in a cosy, Spanish-inspired setting.

Located on Edmund Street, this charming venue features rustic decor, exposed brick walls, and fairy lights that create a relaxed and inviting atmosphere. Whether you're craving crispy squid or vegan-friendly aubergine chips drizzled with truffle, the sharing plates here are bursting with flavour.

The Wilderness

One of the most unique Michelin Guide restaurants is The Wilderness, an eatery that promises a rock 'n' roll soundtrack to complement moody interiors and an open kitchen - with hints of a countryside escape across the food. Their playful menu is globally influenced and uses locally sourced ingredients or those from their own allotment, which are matched with wine flights or non-alcoholic pairings.

The Cross

On the hunt for Michelin star restaurants in the West Midlands and near Birmingham? Look no further than The Cross, a super snug pub-style joint in Kenilworth sporting wooden interiors and a roaring fireplace. Here, chef director Adam Bennett serves a posh one Michelin star British menu that changes with the seasons, featuring delicacies like Wiltshire pork tenderloin with pancetta, white asparagus, anna potatoes, and a verjus sauce, as well as kesar mango crumble, served with Kenilworth honey ice cream.

Tropea

Named after a town on the coast of Calabria, Tropea serves up delicious Italian dishes right here in Harborne. A cosy, cool neighbourhood spot, it's earned plenty of love from the Good Food Guide as well as its Michelin Bib Gourmand.

With much produce sourced directly from Italy, plates are as authentic as they are hearty and homely. Think beef carpaccio, Sardinian fregola with native mussels, aubergine parmigiana, and tagliatelle with ragu alla bolognese.

Adam's

One of the best Michelin star restaurants in Birmingham city centre? We've found it. Settle down in the Art Deco and retro-style dining room or cocktail bar at Adam's. Here, you'll be offered a drinking and dining experience like no other, where modern and traditional food collides to bring you dishes you've probably heard of but presented in a totally new way - leaving the main flavours to shine. This Waterloo Street venue was awarded the coveted accolade for Adam Stokes' British dishes, which are offered up alongside a stellar wine list.

Asha's

With a number of locations across the country, including Birmingham and Manchester, Asha's is a great shout for those on the hunt for restaurants recommended by the Michelin Guide. Most of the Indian sub-continent is covered across huge menus here (although we'd really recommend the muscat gosht, guntur chicken curry and aloo matar ki tikki), while the interiors are as plush as they come with extravagant jewel-coloured and gold accents.

Restaurant Folium

Flaunting chicken liver with burnt onion, mock oyster, and smoked cod roe, the Jewellery Quarter's Folium has managed to nab a Michelin mention, thanks to its fab British dishes that come perfectly presented and packed with flavour. Co-owned and run by Ben Tesh and partner, Lucy Hanlon, the former brings his personality to the kitchen while the latter runs the warm front of house service - making the restaurant ideal for intimate dates.

Opheem

If you're searching for 2 Michelin star Indian restaurants in Birmingham, halal eatery Opheem is calling your name. The brains behind this beautiful fine dining destination is the renowned Aktar Islam, a local chef-owner who champions modern takes on traditional Indian recipes across the most luxurious of surroundings on Summer Row. Better yet? You can pair your ten or five-course tasting menus and a la carte offerings with well-chosen wines from the sommelier.

The Oyster Club

Tucked away under The Ivy on Temple Street is The Oyster Club from chef Adam Stokes. They're offering an understated take on seafood that really lets the main ingredient take centre stage, including shellfish that's shucked in front of you and served up with Tabasco or classic mignonette. Look forward to caviar and fine Champagne galore as you dine on a sleek marble countertop.

Land

Offering a swanky vegan and vegetarian fine dining experience, Land is a stunning Great Western Arcade joint decked out with hardwood floors, luscious green walls and plush seats to sink into. With a feature in the Michelin Guide, this swish joint prides itself on sustainability and seasonality with rotating plates like soy and furikake aubergine, hispi cabbage with satay sauce, as well as broccoli with almond and zhoug on offer. Plus, they're fine wine connoisseurs sporting a wine list filled with goodies from local and independent vineyards and makers.

670 Grams

A must-visit if you're in the Digbeth area, 670 Grams is one of the top Birmingham Michelin restaurants. Why? Its quirky, innovative take on food and extravagant ten-course tasting menus make it stand out in the guide, even without a star. Dishes are as creative as they come, playing with unique flavour combinations alongside contrasting textures and temperatures. The space here is oh-so-urban, with a monochrome look and street art making up the interiors - plus an open kitchen on the mezzanine level.

Simpsons

One of the top Michelin star restaurants in Birmingham, thanks to head chef Luke Tipping's skill and experience, Simpsons is actually a triple threat; think divine dishes, delicious cocktails and a Georgian mansion setting over in Edgbaston. Having held their accolade since 1999, the food here is bound to impress - with the tapenade bread rolls and soufflés coming especially recommended by the guide.

Chakana

Leading the charge for the range of Michelin rated restaurants is Chakana, a venue housed in a former bank that's serving Peruvian cooking from celebrated chef Robert Ortiz. There are gorgeous interiors inspired by the Inca Cross, alongside a price-point that makes this one of the more affordable choices on the list - perfect for a more laid-back evening sharing a meal with friends. The Moseley favourite also has one of the UK's largest collections of pisco to accompany its tasting menus, ceviche, suckling pig, braised octopus and more.
