Tropea in Harborne is the sort of neighbourhood gem that feels instantly welcoming, offering relaxed Italian dining with a focus on simple, ingredient‑led cooking. Co‑owned by chefs Ben Robinson‑Young and Kasia Piątkowska, who first met studying Culinary Arts at University College Birmingham, the restaurant draws inspiration from the Calabrian town it’s named after.
Expect a warm, convivial atmosphere and a menu rooted in regional Italian dishes, with much of the produce sourced directly from Italy. Tropea began its journey in 2021, growing organically thanks to a loyal local following and a shared passion for unfussy, produce‑driven food.
The restaurant has not gone unnoticed by the culinary world. Tropea has earned a coveted Michelin Bib Gourmand, recognising its high‑quality Italian cooking and vibrant homemade pasta served at great value. The Good Food Guide has also shown Tropea plenty of love, naming it among Britain’s best neighbourhood restaurants and highlighting Kasia as a chef to watch. With a recently expanded kitchen and dishes ranging from beef carpaccio to Sardinian fregola with native mussels, Tropea continues to shine as one of Birmingham’s most charming, flavour‑forward Italian spots.
