Brighton has one of the best wine bar scenes of any UK city outside London, and in our opinion, it punches well above its weight. Whether you're after a natural wine bar with 20 bottles by the glass, a candlelit Lanes spot for a date, or a neighbourhood hangout pouring Sussex sparkling alongside small-batch imports, the best wine bars in Brighton cover every mood and budget. We've rounded up our top picks across the city and Hove, from long-standing favourites to newer openings worth knowing about. Yep, a lot of wine was had.

Best Wine Bars In Brighton

Plateau

Looking for the best Brighton wine bars? There's no doubt that Plateau comes up trumps when it comes to the grape-based goodies and wine from across the globe. From drinks that have been hand-picked to match their sumptuous selection of Parisian-style dishes, to a unique and bespoke selection of bottles, Plateau offers everything you need for a romantic night out with that someone special.

Apiary

Run by two Brighton beekeepers, Apiary does things nobody else in the city is doing. The wine list is entirely organic or biodynamic, covering lesser-known regions and grape varieties, and sits alongside one of the most extensive mead selections you'll find anywhere on the south coast. The cocktail menu runs on honey, from a Honeygroni to a Bee Pollen Liqueur Crocus. On Wednesdays, you can drink a bottle in-house for the price of a takeaway bottle.

Ten Green Bottles

One of the best Brighton wine bars for couples, Ten Green Bottles is a fresh and contemporary evening destination just shy of the North Laine. From weekly wine sessions and tastings to a plethora of bar staff that can wow you with their wine-based knowledge, this place boasts some of the most unique flavours and one of the best selections in town.

Wine Bars In Brighton's Lanes

Burnt Orange Brighton

Located within The Lanes, Burnt Orange is brought to you by the team behind The Salt Room and The Coal Shed. It's found inside a former coach house, that retains many of its original 16th century features, as well as more modern touches like plush velvet seating and glossy wooden tables.

They serve a wide variety of white, red, rose and even orange wines, many of which are available by the glass. Feeling peckish? They also serve everything from smoked miso aubergine to charred hispi cabbage and barbecue skirt steak.

Hotel Du Vin Brighton

With a name that literally translates to 'wine hotel', you can count on Hotel Du Vin for a cracking glass of vino. This luxurious spot features a French bistro-inspired restaurant and bar on-site, blending its traditional Victorian features with lots of modern touches.

They offer a huge variety of wines from France and all over the world, available in a glass, carafe or bottle. They even serve a 500g chateaubriand, paired with a bottle of Malbec.

Wine Bars With Good Food In Brighton

Tutto Brighton

An Italian restaurant and wine bar on Marlborough Place, Tutto is found inside a renovated 1930s bank. It was created by Razak Helalat, the restauranteur behind Burnt Orange and The Coal Shed, flaunting chic, colourful interiors.

They serve fine wines by the glass or bottle, with a huge selection from regions all over Italy. There's plenty of tasty food up for grabs too, including venison ragu pappardelle, chicken Milanese or aubergine parmigiana.

Bar 50ml

A small, warm aperitivo bar on St George's Place bringing a genuine slice of Emilia Romagna to Brighton. Owner Stefano runs the room with real hospitality, jazz on the sound system, Negroni roulette on the specials board, and a wine list with Lambrusco front and centre, a sparkling red you won't find poured well anywhere else in the city. Food is focaccia, nibbles and sharing plates, built for grazing alongside drinks.

The Grand Brighton

Tucked away in the The Grand Brighton Hotel, The Victoria Bar & Lounge is the perfect spot to while away a few hours. Its gorgeous bar is beautifully decorated with luxurious gold and deep blue hues and packed with local art pieces.

Take a seat on its sumptuous sofas to work your way through a long list of tasty tipples. We're talking fine worldly wines, locally sourced gems, small batch spirits and signature cocktails.

Wine Bars In Hove

Fourth & Church

Fourth & Church is a bistro cafe and food shop that serves mouth-watering dishes, coupled with exquisite wines. Highlighting locally sourced ingredients, each dish served here is bursting with flavour. However, it's the endless collection of both old and new-world wines that have caught our eye. Whether you prefer an earthy red or a crisp white wine, this wine bar in Hove will definitely be able to accommodate your drinking needs.

Wild Flor

Wild Flor is located in Hove, the first restaurant dreamed up by the talented team of former Cin Cin manager James Thompson, wine expert Robert Maynard, chef Ollie Darby and front of house manager Faye Hudson.

The bistro-style space features exposed brick walls and rustic wooden furniture, and there are all sorts of tasty dishes on the menu. The wine selection has been designed with food pairings in mind, and there are some more unusual options available for seasoned vino drinkers.

Tapestry

Hove's neighbourhood bar on Victoria Grove, Tapestry is the kind of place that fills up quickly and for good reason. Plush velvet sofas, emerald green furnishings and a marble bar set the scene for an evening of small plates and a well-balanced wine list alongside creative cocktails. The east-facing terrace works well in warmer months, and the Sunday roast has built a strong local following.

Carne Brighton

A modern steakhouse on Church Road in Hove, Carne earns its place on a wine bar list because of its wine cellar rather than its steaks, though the beef is worth the trip too. Chef Phil Bartley, formerly of the Brighton Metropole, is joined by Steve Pineau of L'Atelier Du Vin, and the wine programme reflects that pairing: carefully curated, knowledgeable without being showy, and built around food matching. Regular wine tasting events are worth keeping an eye on.

Late Night Wine Bars In Brighton

Voya Brighton

A stylish and intimate bar tucked away on North Road, VOYA draws inspiration from the classical brasseries, bistros and cocktail bars of days gone by. Music is a big part of the vibe, with resident DJs and special guests behind the decks from 7pm to 11pm every night.

Whether you're here for drinks and nibbles or to get down on the dance floor, there's plenty to keep you going. We're talking fine wines and fizz from around the world, plus classic cocktails and signature concoctions.

Blanch House Cocktail Bar

Tucked inside the Blanch House Boutique Hotel just outside Kemptown, this intimate bar is one of Brighton's better-kept secrets for a serious drink in a properly good-looking room. The wine list is quietly impressive, leaning towards classic European bottles served in surroundings that feel more members' club than Brighton bar, think velvet, low lighting and well-dressed regulars who aren't in a hurry. If you're after somewhere to open a decent bottle without the noise of the Lanes, this is it.
