Plateau

Description

Tucked away in Brighton’s historic Lanes, Plateau is a stylish wine bar and restaurant that has earned cult status among foodies thanks to its relaxed atmosphere, exceptional drinks list and inventive small plates. One of the pioneers of the natural wine movement outside London, this intimate spot pairs exposed brickwork and candlelit tables with a menu that celebrates seasonality, sustainability and top-quality Sussex produce. Whether you're settling in for a leisurely lunch or an evening of grazing and wine, Plateau strikes the perfect balance between laid-back and sophisticated.

The restaurant was founded by French friends Vincent Lebon and Thierry Pluquet, with former head chef Jake Northcote-Green overseeing day-to-day operations. The kitchen focuses on modern European cuisine, serving a regularly changing menu of sharing plates inspired by the seasons. Expect dishes such as beef tartare, roasted duck, whipped cod's roe and creative vegetable-led plates, all designed to complement the extensive selection of natural, organic and biodynamic wines. Carefully crafted cocktails add another layer to the experience, making it just as popular for drinks as it is for dinner.

Plateau's reputation extends well beyond its compact dining room, with recognition for both its food and award-winning wine programme helping to cement its place among Brighton’s standout independent venues.
