Boasting a killer happy hour from 4 to 8pm on weekdays, The Flying Horse is a no-brainer when it comes to after-work drinks. We're talking two-for-one cocktails or G&Ts, £3.80 real ales and even buy-one-get-one-free pizzas.

The interiors are simple and laid-back, with multiple different screens showing live sports. You'll also find live music on Thursdays and karaoke every Friday, so they've got you covered on the entertainment front too.

The Horse and Groom

Heading up towards Shoreditch, The Horse and Groom dates back to the 1800s - and the site was recently recognised as the original entrance for Shakespeare's Curtain Theatre, where Romeo and Juliet and Henry V debuted. Today, it has become one of East London's favourite boozers.

Expect a wide range of craft beers, ales, cocktails and more, as well as a tasty food menu from Pizza Luxe. They also host a number of fun events on a regular basis, from late-night DJ sets to daytime parties.

The Lord Aberconway

A traditional pub that has been around since the 19th century, The Lord Aberconway was named after the last chairman of the old Metropolitan Railway. Practically next door to Liverpool Street station, the location couldn't be more convenient, and there are a number of refreshing cask ales beckoning you before your train home.

They also know a thing or two about great food, serving up a menu of pesto, cheese and spinach gnocchi, garlic chicken schnitzel and pulled beef brisket burgers - to name just a few dishes.

The Globe Moorgate

Always attracting a crowd of customers that spills out onto the street, The Globe can be found right next to Moorgate tube station. It's split across multiple rooms overt the two floors, with dark wooden furnishings and comfy leather seating spread throughout.

The Jugged Hare

If you're after somewhere with great food as well as drink, then The Jugged Hare is certainly one of the best pubs Liverpool Street has to offer. The building forms part of the old Grade II-listed Whitbread Brewery, and it features an open kitchen where you can watch the chefs work, as well as quirky taxidermy along the walls.

As well as a spectacular Sunday roast, you can get stuck into the likes of charcuterie boards, lobster pie and aubergine schnitzel. Or if you're just swinging by for drinks, cosy up in the corner with one of their British cask ales - including their very own Jugged Hare pale ale.

The Star By Liverpool Street

  • Why we recommend: for a pub that's packed full of entertainment, you can't go wrong here. It transitions perfectly from post-work drinks to karaoke, with tasty street food-style bites to keep you fuelled as well

Situated close to both Bishopsgate and Spitalfields Market, The Star By Liverpool Street is a spacious pub that offers something for everyone. They show all the biggest live sporting events on their multiple screens, and there are even five individually themed karaoke rooms available to hire.

You'll find regular events here too, from drag brunches to open karaoke. There are a wide variety of beers, wines, spirits and cocktails on offer, and if you're hungry there are juicy burgers on offer too.

Crutched Friar, London

  • Why we recommend: whether you're out on the sunny terrace or cosying up inside, there's such a wide variety of food and drink to be enjoyed at this historic boozer

Named after the Roman Catholic order who settled on this site in 1249, the Crutched Friar has got a lot of history to it. Things are a little more modern these days, with comfortable, minimal interiors, a spacious outdoor area and a diverse range of drinks on offer.

They specialise in cask ale and craft beer, with a huge number of gins to choose from as well. Planning a pub lunch? These guys are cooking up the likes of hand-battered fish and chips, butternut squash ravioli and hunter's chicken.

The Alice, Houndsditch

  • Why we recommend: this relaxed spot serves delicious beer, and their varied food menu caters for everyone

Flaunting tanks of freshly brewed lager above the bar, The Alice is ideal for beer lovers (though their cocktail list is excellent too). The venue is full of quirky 50s touches, combined with more modern elements like neon pink signs on the walls.

You can expect live music on Thursdays and DJs every Friday night. Hungry? Check out their menu of mushroom mac 'n' cheese, tandoori chicken pizzas, blue cheese beef burgers and so much more.

Combining vintage furniture with industrial touches, Tokenhouse has a unique, elegant look to it. It's got a speakeasy-style Cellar Bar that's available for private events, as well as a main drinking and dining area that's warmly lit and filled with comfortable seating.

Choose between cask ales, craft beers, cocktails and wine from the bar. And if you're feeling peckish, their loaded fries and 1kg sharers of chicken wings are bound to impress.

The Grocer

Looking for a pub near Liverpool street with a beer garden? Then make your way to The Grocer, situated within the iconic Spitalfields market. It fronts a huge outdoor seating area, filled with plush blue sofas, as well as a kitsch interior made up of leather booths and retro signs.

Head up to the rustic wooden bar for an impressive choice of ales, fine wines and premium spirits. Pair these with British gastro plates, such as baked camembert, steak and ale pie or wild mushroom tagliatelle.
