Bollywood music refers to the soundtrack of Hindi-language films produced by the Mumbai film industry — the world's most prolific film industry by output. It's a hugely eclectic genre that blends traditional Indian classical and folk music with Western pop, electronic beats, hip hop, and R&B, resulting in a sound that's instantly recognisable for its energy, melody, and danceability.
Bollywood refers broadly to the music and dance style associated with Hindi cinema — it's a wide umbrella term covering everything from romantic film ballads to high-energy dance numbers. Bhangra is a specific traditional folk music and dance style originating from the Punjab region of South Asia, characterised by its driving dhol drum beat, energetic movements, and celebratory spirit.
Many Bollywood events in London actively encourage traditional South Asian dress — saris, lehengas, and salwar kameez for women, and sherwanis or kurtas for men — and dressing up in this way is warmly welcomed and celebrated. That said, Western going-out attire is equally acceptable at most events, and there's no obligation to dress in traditional clothing unless the event specifically requests it.
Bollywood events make for a brilliant and memorable hen party — the combination of vibrant music, dancing, and a naturally celebratory atmosphere is a perfect fit for a group celebration.
