Best Balham Beer Gardens

The Nightingale

Recently famous for its blue plaque commemorating singer Raye's first heartbreak, The Nightingale has a lot of local history to it. It has been around since 1869, and still maintains a lot of traditional features in the Grade II-listed venue.

Its sizeable beer garden is covered and heated, so you can drink outdoors here whatever the weather. Regularly appearing in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide, you can rely on the drinks selection too.

The Devonshire

A real croed-pleaser, The Devonshire is ideal for whiling away an afternoon on Balham High Street. It's a dog and family-friendly destination with ample outdoor seating, transitioning perfectly from chilled daytime drinks to an evening out.

When hunger strikes, they've got an excellent food menu too. We're talking bavette steaks, mushroom gnocchi, double cheeseburgers and more.

Hagen & Hyde

If rooftop drinks are your thing, Hagen & Hyde delivers on Balham High Road. Their sunny, elevated terrace has lots of seating space, and there's another courtyard on the ground floor as well.

From relaxed drinks to sports screenings and nights out, it's all going on here. Plus, you can even order food from Yard Sale Pizza straight to the pub.

The Avalon

A modern British boozer that's beautiful inside and out, The Avalon is always a good shout. Take a seat in their stylish courtyard, which is covered in foliage and twinkling lights, with heated areas to suit the colder weather.

As well as a wide variety of drinks, you can get stuck into a menu of buttermilk fried chicken burgers, sirloin steaks, breaded halloumi and more.

Balham Bowls Club

A sprawling boozer close to the station, Balham Bowls Club has got all sorts going on. From quizzes to sports screenings and monthly comedy nights, you can find it all here, as well as a spacious beer garden out the back.

This foliage-filled space is perfect for summer evenings, with tables of all sizes to accommodate multiple groups. The bar is well-stocked, and they also serve dishes like chicken, mushroom and bacon pie, roasted squash with quinoa and seafood linguine.

The Regent

Cocktail Club and 11 other offers

An independent pub with a charming feel to it, The Regent is a lively choice for both afternoon and evening fun. Their hidden terrace is great for basking in the sun, with glowing lights that welcome you out there well after dark.

From cocktails to brunches and Sunday roasts, there's all sorts to get stuck into here. Food-wise, think everything from crispy squid with sriracha mayo to beef brisket loaded nachos and chickpea flatbreads.
