Best Borough Market Wine Bars

Barrafina Borough – Bar Daskal

  • Location: 10 Park Street, SE1 9AB
  • Price: ££
  • Why we recommend: this is a must-visit for fans of Spanish wine - it really makes us feel like we're drinking in the sun no matter the weather

Making up part of Barrafina Borough, Bar Daskal is a sleek Spanish wine and tapas bar. The two-storey venue is decked out in a neutral colour scheme, warmly lit and featuring plenty of seating space. There are also large windows where you can watch the bustling market streets below as you sip.

From sherry to orange wine, their wine list is varied and delicious, with lots of cocktails on offer too. Hungry? Tuck into tasty bites like manchego, chorizo and smoked olives.

The Boot and Flogger

Father's Day and 1 other offer

  • Location: 10-20 Redcross Way, SE1 1TA
  • Price: ££
  • Why we recommend: this is one of our very favourite wine bars in the whole city, and there's a real history to it too. One of London's original spots for drinking quality wine, we feel instantly at home in this charming space

The Boot and Flogger is the original site from Davy's Wine Bars, dating back to 1965. It has been previously named No. 1 'best-reviewed in London' by DesignMyNight, and for good reason, thanks to its rustic, homely interior and excellent selection of drinks. Surround yourself with white brick walls, tiled floors and wooden beamed ceilings, with lots of cosy touches throughout.

It began life operating under the historic Free Vintners' license from the Worshipful Company of Vintners', meaning that they could only sell wine. This made it a truly unique venue, as back in the 60s high-end wine by the glass was usually only found at luxury hotels. Today, while the bar has expanded, the focus is still firmly on premium vino, which you can enjoy alongside dishes like roast rump of lamb, wild mushroom and aubergine stroganoff or locally sourced steaks.

Bedales of Borough Market

  • Location: 5 Bedale Street, SE1 9AL
  • Price: ££
  • Why we recommend: a buzzing wine bar famous both locally and on screen, Bedlaes really allows you to soak up the atmosphere of the market as you drink and dine - particularly if you manage to nab a seat on their terrace

The flagship location for the venue group, Bedales of Borough Market is a wine shop, bar and bistro inside a former potato storehouse. You may have seen it featured as the Greek restaurant in Bridget Jones' Diary, sat right in the heart of the bustling market. Inside, you'll find a wine cellar and an open kitchen, or head outside to sit on their vibrant terrace.

Their wine list is made up of bottles from independent producers and family-owned estates, with a rotating selection of glasses available. They also serve tasty food like jamon Iberico croquettes, seared halloumi and fried pizzetta, curating a warm, Mediterranean vibe.

Elliot's Borough

  • Location: 12 Stoney Street, Borough Market, SE1 9AD
  • Price: £££
  • Why we recommend: an upmarket but laid-back destination, Elliot's captures the liveliness of the market while still retaining a quiet sophistication. Their natural wines are worth coming for alone, but we also adore their food menu for a sharing meal with friends

Situated on the outskirts of Borough Market, Elliot's is a relaxed bar and restaurant that combines high quality drinks and dining with a friendly energy. They specialise in natural, low-intervention wines, alongside modern European dishes with a foundation in British ingredients.

The decor is understated but stylish, complete with exposed brick walls and plants dotted around the room - with a small outdoor terrace to boot. If you fancy a full meal here, they serve a sharing-style menu of nduja mussels, sirloin on the bone, asparagus in wild garlic and so much more.

Quill Wine Bar

  • Location: 5 Bedale Street, SE1 9AL
  • Price: ££
  • Why we recommend: fronting higgledy‑piggledy interiors and a vast selection of wine available by the glass, Quill is such a lovely spot for an evening of drinking with friends

Located in Borough Yards, Quill Wine Bar has turned a former railway arch into an eccentric venue full of chandeliers, spiral staircases and quirky patterns. Step inside the cellar-style space for a relaxed drink or two, and in the summer be sure to check out their outdoor space too.

They sell a huge variety of wines by the glass, as well as in carafes and bottles - including orange wine. There are cocktails up for grabs too, alongside mouthwatering plates such as baked camembert, Champagne-battered fish and chips or cured meat boards.

Camille

  • Location: 2-3 Stoney Street, SE1 9AA
  • Price: £££
  • Why we recommend: prepare to be whisked away to the French countryside by this enticing bistro, whether you're simply sampling a quality glass of red or tucking into their indulgent dishes

An elegant French restaurant with a healthy dose of rustic charm, Camille is a bistro-style restaurant and wine bar inspired by regional France. The striking interiors have a red colour scheme, with dark furnishings and countless bottles of wine on display.

As well as all the vino you could ask for, head chef Elliot Hashtroudi has curated a regularly changing menu made with premium British produce. We're talking monkfish liver parfait, shallot tartin and Hereford steak - to name just a few options.
