Best Beer Gardens In Shoreditch

1. Queen of Hoxton

  • Location: 100-108 Shoreditch High Street, Shoreditch, E1 6JQ
  • Price: ££
  • Key features: rooftop beer garden, seasonal themed terrace, heated winter garden with yurt, outdoor firepits, DJ-led events, Club Mexicana food residency
  • Why I recommend: in my opinion, Queen of Hoxton is one of the most dynamic rooftop beer gardens in the area that transforms with the seasons, making it a great pick for an outdoor drinking destination all year round

With a theme that's ever-changing, the rooftop beer garden at the Queen of Hoxton never stays the same for long, which only adds to the charm. One of the few sky-high terraces in the area, it's the perfect spot for refreshing pints come the summer months and hot toddies beside the firepit in winter.

They will even take you from day to night, with a club downstairs featuring DJs from Thursday to Saturday. Food comes courtesy of Club Mexicana, serving up plant-based tacos, nachos, and loaded sides, alongside a strong cocktail list (we're fond of the margarita here).

2. The Crown and Shuttle

  • Location: 274-275 Shoreditch High Street, Shoreditch, E1 6PJ
  • Price: ££-£££
  • Key features: large East London beer garden, historic Victorian pub, craft beer selection, outdoor seating with fairy lights and greenery, heated areas
  • Why I recommend: The Crown and Shuttle is a go-to for me when I'm looking for a beer garden near Liverpool Street. Set inside a restored Victorian pub with a long and varied history dating back to 1865, it has retained its character while evolving into a relaxed East London drinking spot with some great craft beer credentials

One of the most popular beer gardens in the area, The Crown and Shuttle has plenty of space to play with. Boasting one of the biggest alfresco spots around, as well as a rich history since its opening in 1865, this place is lined with greenery and pergolas. The garden is strung with fairy lights, and it gets pretty packed out when all the big sports events play on the outdoor TV screens too.

Food is a big part of the appeal as well. The menu focuses on pub classics, including burgers, wings, and fried chicken sandwiches, alongside plant-based options and indulgent sides like truffle fries and gravy cheese fries. There's also a solid rotating beer list featuring everything from crisp lagers and IPAs to stouts like Guinness.

3. The Owl and Pussycat Shoreditch

  • Location: 34 Redchurch Street, Shoreditch, E2 7DP
  • Price: ££
  • Key features: all-season beer garden, heated and covered outdoor space, dog-friendly pub, outdoor bar ('Dog House Bar'), live sports screenings (World Cup and major fixtures)
  • Why I recommend: you get a characterful pub interior with a surprisingly large and versatile all-season beer garden at the back. I love the fact it's dog-friendly, and that they even dub it a 'Dog House Bar'. You can bring your pup along and soak up the sun together with a spritz (for you, of course)

This neat and petite boozer is the perfect spot for a weekend tipple or a post-work pint. And while you may not notice it right away from the front, The Owl And Pussycat's back garden is a peaceful little place for an alfresco pint.

In warmer months, the garden becomes a proper sun trap and social hub, with a lively atmosphere and its own outdoor bar serving beers like Camden Hells alongside gin and seasonal spritzes. While away those hazy summer days with a Pimm's in hand at this cosy pub, alongside tasty dishes like barbecue roast chicken, garlic and broccoli mac 'n' cheese or marinated pork skewers.

4. Light Bar London

  • Location: 233 Shoreditch High Street, Shoreditch, London, E1 6PJ
  • Price: ££-£££
  • Key features: rooftop terrace, heated and covered backyard beer garden, Modern European dining, weekend DJs
  • Why I recommend: Light Bar combines historic architecture with a modern East London nightlife feel. Housed inside a former Victorian power station, the space spans three floors and multiple atmospheres, making it one of the most versatile venues in the area, and I've found its beer garden is always buzzing every time I've walked past

Tucked away, just five minutes from Liverpool Street station, The Light Bar's beer garden is the stuff of local legend. By day, it's a place to catch some rays, sip on margaritas or a pint of Camden Hells lager and escape from the city.

By night, it transforms into a heated oasis, perfect for cosy cocktails, craft beer, sharing plates and nibbles. The atmosphere shifts throughout the week, from relaxed drinks and casual dinners to late-night sessions with DJs at weekends. Whatever kind of outdoor entertainment you're looking for, from after-work drinks to all-night celebrations, the Light Bar's got your back.

5. Rolling Stock

  • Location: 48 Kingsland Road, Hoxton, E2 8DA
  • Price: ££
  • Key features: large covered and heated beer garden, railway arch venue, late-night bar, DJ-led club nights, live jazz sessions, pool table in garden
  • Why I recommend: I feel like Rolling Stock is one of the most underrated beer gardens, especially if you're looking for scale and year-round outdoor drinking under the arches. I think it combines a gritty East London setting with an expansive and well-designed outdoor space, and it really prides itself on its lineup of live entertainment - there's never a dull moment

Rolling Stock is a mega venue with plenty of late nights on its side (think DJs and the odd live band), but we're here for the beer garden. Gravelled, covered with a pergola wrapped in pretty vines and fronting picnic-style wooden benches to settle down on, it's a total hidden gem in our opinion.

Drink-wise, Rolling Stock covers all bases. On tap, you'll typically find a rotating mix of craft beers and reliable classics like Camden Hells and Asahi, alongside lagers such as Pilsner Urquell and independent pours from UK breweries. This place is open 'til 4am Thursday to Saturday as well, with the outdoor space available until 10pm.

6. Strongroom Bar and Kitchen

  • Location: 109-113 Curtain Road, Shoreditch, EC2A 3BS
  • Price: ££
  • Key features: Shoreditch's largest beer garden, independent bar and late-night venue, live music and DJ programming, outdoor seating with covered areas
  • Why I recommend: I really like Strongroom Bar and Kitchen, not just for its size but for its deep-rooted connection to the area's creative history. Originally opened in 1997 to serve the onsite recording studios, it has evolved into a true East London institution, especially come summertime, thanks to its expansive garden, while staying independent

A bustling terrace with more than enough beer to keep you happy, Strongroom is a side-street nugget of gold. From its live music nights to its outdoor bar filled with vibrant orange picnic tables, this is the place to be once the sun starts shining in Shoreditch. And if the weather is a little more unpredictable? They've got gazebos and wooden huts to keep you covered.

On tap, you can expect rotating craft beers alongside reliable staples like Camden Hells, Beavertown Neck Oil, and classic lagers such as Asahi or Peroni. For something lighter, Aperol spritzes are common go-to orders in the garden, along with house wines and simple mixed drinks.

7. The Eagle Hoxton

  • Location: 2 Shepherdess Walk, Hoxton, London, N1 7LB
  • Price: ££
  • Key features: courtyard beer garden, traditional British pub, seasonal outdoor seating, dog-friendly venue
  • Why I recommend: I go here when I want a traditional beer garden pub in the wider Shoreditch and Hoxton area. It stands out for its classic British pub character and its hidden courtyard beer garden - a quiet suntrap tucked just off Shepherdess Walk. It's also quite the pick for live sport and a great menu full of pub classics

Located in the heart of Hoxton, The Eagle is a vibrant dog-friendly pub boasting a sunny courtyard to the back - with covered sections for that ever-changing British weather. It offers a calm, sheltered outdoor space that works perfectly for slower-paced afternoons, pub lunches, or relaxed evening pints away from the busier Shoreditch streets.

Head here to feast on British classics, such as beer-battered fish and chips, flavoursome salads and juicy vegan burgers - don't forget to wash it down with an Aperol spritz or a jug of Pimm's.

8. Well And Bucket

  • Location: 143 Bethnal Green Road, Bethnal Green, E2 7DG
  • Price: ££
  • Key features: shabby-chic beer garden pub, courtyard-style outdoor seating, craft beers and classic lagers, oyster house and small plates menu
  • Why I recommend: sitting perfectly between Bethnal Green and Brick Lane, this beer garden mixes an oyster-house feel with a relaxed East London pub atmosphere. I love the private feel to the garden, and the fact its decorated with plenty of foliage and fairy lights

Expect shabby-chic vibes and lots of greenery among the exposed brick walls of the Well And Bucket's outdoor terrace. This secret garden-style space is filled with traditional wooden furniture and fairy lights for those summer evenings, while the bar is whipping up all kinds of classic cocktails.

Hungry? Then you're in luck, as you'll find delicious small plates, juicy steaks and plant-based burgers here too. Wash all of this down with classic lagers like Asahi, Amstel or Beavertown Neck Oil, or treat yourself to a crisp glass of Pinot Grigio.

9. Apples and Pears

Christmas at Apples & Pears and 2 other offers

  • Location: 26 Osborn Street, Shoreditch, E1 6TD
  • Price: ££-£££
  • Key features: covered and heated courtyard beer garden, graffiti-style hidden entrance, cocktail-focused bar, DJ sets and weekend nightlife
  • Why I recommend: I love the hidden entrance off Brick Lane to Apples and Pears as it makes it feel like a secret bar, and it's as well-known for its cocktails as it is for its music-driven atmosphere. Tucked behind a graffiti-covered shutter, it's very East London, and you can relax in its garden all year round with a signature serve

Tootle on down to Apples and Pears' Brick Lane beer garden - one that's well worth the journey. This quirky but intimate outdoor space is filled with greenery and beach hut-inspired colourful wooden panelling, making it the perfect spot for those who want a little more sparkle from their nights out.

The drinks certainly don't disappoint either - these include the house Apples & Pears, with vodka, caramel pear liqueur, apple and spice notes, alongside standout serves like the Raspresso Martini, Not a Negroni, and Vanilla Cheesecake Martini. For something lighter, there are also well-crafted spritz-style options and a strong selection of no & low alcohol cocktails such as the Everleaf paloma and lavender and hibiscus martini.

10. Barrio Shoreditch

  • Location: 141-143 Shoreditch High Street, Shoreditch, E1 6JE
  • Price: £-££
  • Key features: tequila and rum garden, covered outdoor terrace, 2-4-1 cocktails (selected hours), Mexican-inspired street food
  • Why I recommend: I suggest this one for social sessions that start with tacos and end with late-night cocktails. Sitting right on Shoreditch High Street, it brings a colourful Latin-inspired concept to one of East London's busiest nightlife streets. Definitely book ahead to secure your spot outside

A heated beer garden in the winter, a tropical favourite in the summer, Barrio Shoreditch is for the fun-loving party people of East London to enjoy a few Mexican plates of nachos and guacamole along with vibrant cocktails aplenty.

Take a seat on one of their multi-coloured benches and snap Instagram-worthy pics against their vibrant backdrops, while taking advantage of their happy hour prices between 4pm and 8pm on weekdays, or from 12pm on Sundays. Signature serves include Tommy's margaritas (a house staple), classic frozen margaritas, palomas, and spicy margaritas.

11. The Whitecross Tap, London

  • Location: 2 Whitecross Street, Old Street, EC1Y 8QJ
  • Price: ££
  • Key features: small outdoor beer garden, 16 craft beer taps, outdoor TVs for live sport, sourdough pizza menu, extensive gin selection
  • Why I recommend: The Whitecross Tap stands out for beer quality, rotation, and overall drinking experience. I think that the 16-tap lineup is a key strength. You'll typically find a well-balanced mix of London-based breweries and guest pours, with a focus on sessionable styles like pale ales, lagers, and IPAs that suit longer outdoor drinking

Looking for somewhere to enjoy an alfresco pint near Shoreditch? The Whitecross Tap is home to a small but perfectly formed beer garden, complete with outdoor TVs and pretty festoon lighting, perfect for game days. The beer garden itself, while compact, is intelligently set up.

As for the menu? You'll find stone-baked pizzas topped with sticky barbecue chicken, grilled mushrooms, spicy pepperoni and more here. Overall, it's a strong example of a smaller beer garden done properly, prioritising quality pours, efficient service, and a setup that encourages you to stay for more than one drink.

12. Brick Lane Tap Room

  • Location: Dray Walk, Brick Lane, Shoreditch, E1 6QL
  • Price: £-££
  • Key features: rotating craft beer taproom, indoor-outdoor drinking space, pool table and dartboard, retro board games, dog-friendly venue
  • Why I recommend: I think that Brick Lane Tap Room is one of the more flexible, session-friendly beer garden-style spots in Shoreditch. Its open, indoor-outdoor layout and spill-out seating create a lively social experience, especially during warmer months on Dray Walk

Looking for the best Shoreditch pubs with beer gardens? This cool bar sits in Spitalfields, bringing you outdoor drinking and dining. Venture down to Brick Lane Tap Room for a delicious selection of craft brews and 12" wood-fired pizzas, paired with a pint from their ever-changing range of beers.

The combination of shared tables, games like pool and darts, and a steady flow of foot traffic from Brick Lane gives it a social, drop-in feel that encourages longer stays, and it's particularly well-suited to groups who fancy some entertainment with their pints after a stroll around the market.

13. BOXPARK Shoreditch

  • Location: 2 Bethnal Green Road, Shoreditch, E1 6HT
  • Price: ££
  • Key features: open-air roof deck, large communal beer garden-style seating, street food vendors, multiple bars
  • Why I recommend: built from shipping containers and spread across multiple levels, the roof deck in particular delivers one of the most expansive outdoor drinking setups in Shoreditch

The ultimate outdoor drinking space, thanks to its cool shipping container location, BOXPARK is making sure you're making the most of the weather every time the sun shines. Multiple bars mean you'll typically find a mix of mainstream lagers like Camden Hells and Estrella, alongside craft options, canned beers, and simple cocktails such as margaritas and rum-based serves.

Sip your drink of choice while munching through the menus of international street food on offer - this place flaunts everything from Black Bear Burgers to jerk chicken wraps. As for entertainment? You'll find all kinds of live music and other fun events here.

14. Gigis Hoxton

  • Location: 11 Hoxton Square, Hoxton, N1 6NU
  • Price: ££
  • Key features: outdoor terrace seating, creative bar and restaurant, Indian-inspired menu with modern twist, late-night music venue (The Underbelly)
  • Why I recommend: to me, Gigi's Hoxton stands out for its blend of creative programming, design-led interiors, and a more refined terrace-style outdoor drinking setup. While the outdoor space is smaller and more integrated into the front of the venue, it works well as part of a broader, multi-layered experience that combines food, drinks, and music under one roof

The sun is shining, the birds are singing, and it's time to enjoy those alfresco sips - as well as tasty Indian bites reimagined, such as chaat bruschetta, behl puri, and vegetable samosas served with a tamarind chutney.

Gigis Hoxton boasts a bustling Shoreditch beer garden with a colourful mural stretching across one wall, complete with wooden benches, verdant shrubs and a removable roof for when the weather decides to turn. Above ground, it operates as a stylish bar and terrace spot; below, The Underbelly transforms it into one of the more established late-night music venues in the area, hosting gigs, DJ nights, and private events.

15. The Fox

FREE bottle of Prosecco! and 3 other offers

  • Location: 28 Paul Street, Shoreditch, EC2A 4LB
  • Price: ££
  • Key features: rooftop terrace beer garden, wide selection of world beers and London gins, Asian-inspired food residency
  • Why I recommend: spread across three floors, there's a progression of spaces, but it's the rooftop terrace that adds real value from a beer garden perspective. I think The Fox is a great hangout for a spot of karaoke with friends, before making your way upstairs for a couple of cocktails in the sun

Looking for beer gardens on a Shoreditch rooftop? Then The Fox is exactly what you're after. The terrace itself functions as a compact but effective rooftop drinking space, offering a more elevated alternative to ground-level courtyards. It's particularly strong in warmer months, where it becomes a sun-catching spot for hanging out.

The relaxed retreat is popular with the post-work crowd, boasting a fantastic selection of world beers and pop-up food residencies, with everything from chicken or mushroom gyozas to katsu fries up for grabs. They've even got karaoke rooms here too.

16. The Red Lion

  • Location: 41 Hoxton Street, Hoxton, N1 6NH
  • Price: ££
  • Key features: rooftop beer garden, covered outdoor seating, four-floor pub, games room (pool, table football, arcade games)
  • Why I recommend: I think that, in an area where outdoor space is often limited, having a dedicated rooftop with covered seating gives The Red Lion in Hoxton a practical edge, particularly when it comes to all-weather usability. It's a reliable pick for an outside pint or two

Head to The Red Lion for a spot of open-air fun, with wooden picnic tables surrounded by greenery to relax on. This beer garden is also a rooftop bar to boot - the perfect place to sun yourself above the hustle and bustle of the city. The space works across seasons thanks to its covered tables - a key detail that makes a noticeable difference in London's unpredictable weather. In warmer months, it becomes a casual suntrap, while in colder conditions it still functions as a usable outdoor space.

Expect a straightforward lineup of lagers, ales, and familiar spirits, alongside simple cocktails and mixers that suit the setting. Better yet, the kitchen whips up pizzas and burgers, while the games room is ideal for playing pool, table football or on the retro arcade.

17. The Horse and Groom

  • Location: 28 Curtain Road, Shoreditch, EC2A 3NZ
  • Price: ££
  • Key features: rear beer garden, late-night music venue, DJ sets and dancefloor, craft beers and cocktails
  • Why I recommend: few venues in Shoreditch can claim a connection to the original Curtain Theatre, where early performances of Shakespearean plays are believed to have taken place, which adds a layer of cultural depth that goes beyond the typical pub experience, in my opinion

Looking for a beer garden near Liverpool Street? The Horse and Groom is a bustling watering hole with an intimate outdoor terrace at the back, filled with pretty plants and wooden tables. It's best suited to those looking to step out with a drink, reset, and continue a session. Look forward to a mix of craft beers, lagers, and cask ales alongside cocktails and premium spirits.

By day, it operates as a relaxed East London pub; by night, it transforms into a respected music venue, having hosted well-known DJs and electronic acts over the years. Food-wise? It's all about mouthwatering slices cooked up by Pizza Luxe.

  • Why I recommend: I feel like Aviary stands out as one of the most polished rooftop beer garden alternatives in Shoreditch. Perched on the 10th floor of the Montcalm Royal London House, it delivers uninterrupted skyline views that few venues in the area can match, making it a destination for the setting as much as the drinks

Aviary Restaurant Bar & Rooftop is perfect for alfresco sips all year round, thanks to its bougie rooftop terrace, which features cosy igloos that come out during winter (filled with comfy seating and blankets), so you can enjoy the views throughout the evening.

Found on the 10th floor of the Montcalm Royal London House Hotel in Finsbury Square, neighbouring Shoreditch, you can sip expertly crafted cocktails alongside tasty plates like beetroot-cured Scottish salmon and slow-cooked Welsh lamb shoulder here.
