Our Review Of The Good Oak In Notting Hill: This New Italian-American Gem Does One Hell Of A Sunday Roast

Let me tell you a secret. Sometimes the best roast dinners can be found in slightly unexpected places. Take The Good Oak in Notting Hill, for example: they’re known for serving playful, LA-inspired Italian plates like arancini and chicken parm bites. But here’s the thing, they’ve taken the Sunday staple and catapulted it to the next level. How? Keep reading to find out more.

Previously known as The Oak, owner Steven Shamoon had a new vision for this much-loved Westbourne Park Road hangout, and this new incarnation threw open their doors in September 2025. Prepare for bright, delicious and comforting food in a stylish space, maintaining a cosy, friendly neighbourhood pub-like charm.

The interiors at The Good Oak Notting Hill were snug and warm, but pretty fancy too.

Need To Know:

  • Address: 137 Westbourne Park Road, W2 5QL
  • Area: Notting Hill
  • Cuisine: generally Italian-American, but they do an epic roast as well

Ambience & We Think Perfect For

  • Atmosphere: once inside, you’re greeted with soft lighting, vintage-looking glass panels, marble-topped tables and gorgeous embroidered booth seating, set against chic burgundy and cream walls. We sat opposite the kitchen, which was a joy, where all the roast meats were delicately sliced in full view. It felt relaxed but upbeat. This was down to not only the mix of families, friends and couples, but the staff made everyone very comfortable and seemed to genuinely enjoy interacting with guests.
  • Perfect For: chilled weekends, but ask me again when I visit in the evening, as the live music showcases upstairs could be an ideal lively date night.

My Good Oak photos don't do the roasts justice - just look at the size of them.

Menu Highlights

Food⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

All roasts come with triple-cooked potatoes that had an almighty crunch, Guinness-glazed carrots, the fluffiest of Yorkshire puddings and a delightful, lemony Tuscan kale. Don’t skip on the charred long-stemmed broccoli, trust us.

  • Veggie roast (£28) - finally, a restaurant that puts vegetables front and centre in a Sunday roast. The earthy butternut squash acted like a ray of sunshine, the cubes of warm beetroot were a nice touch, and the mushrooms a standout, while my grilled celeriac steak resembled halloumi. The shining star proved to be the smoky caramelised cauliflower puree - it had incredible depth and was so silky smooth.
  • Porchetta roast (£30) - imagine an Instagrammable swirl of succulent, free range Suffolk pork belly with the crispiest golden crackling. The meat was finished in a wood oven, well-seasoned and my date particularly enjoyed the balance of herbs, including aniseed (which sometimes can be overpowering). To finish it off? Sweet apple sauce, of course.
  • Guinness-glazed pigs in blankets (£7) - boasting a Christmassy-type flavour, expect a sticky sweet sauce bringing together a Guinness reduction, cinnamon, star anise and a sprinkling of sugar. Paired with juicy meat? Yes, it is as good as it sounds.
  • Tiramisu (£16) - having seen the table opposite order this, we unashamedly and brazenly copycatted them. Designed for two to share, we dived right into the divine, distinct layers of cloud-like cream, rich coffee-soaked biscuit and a generous cocoa dusting on top. Almond notes were detected as well, which was lovely.

Drink: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

  • Pompelmina (£11)  - bitter, bubbly, summery and booze-free - I loved this mix of Everleaf, lime and grapefruit (consider Dry January covered).
  • Virgin Mojito (£10) - a solid alcohol-free alternative blending mint tea cordial and soda - it had a refreshing apple-like aftertaste too.

Our Overall Experience At The Good Oak, Notting Hill

DesignMyNight Review Out Of 5: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Having probably the cutest logo ever (turns out, I may have fallen in love with a smiling, cartoon leaf), this beauty just by Portobello Road is the complete package. I experienced a true celebration of veggies, all neatly presented and cooked beautifully. Considering the number of vegetables on my plate, they didn't compete with each other - everything worked in unison which was so impressive. Special shout out to the restaurant itself as well, still retaining its community pub feel with thoughtful details like board games dotted around.
