Our Review Of Tortello: A New Italian Restaurant At The Royal Lancaster London Hotel

I'm a sucker for a good Italian restaurant, so news of one opening up is always of interest to me. Naturally, I was eager to try Tortello, a modern version of the traditional Italian trattoria that opened within the Royal Lancaster London hotel in January 2026 - close to Hyde Park

They're all about doing things by hand, the traditional way, taking care to pick out the freshest ingredients from artisan farmers. Chef Giuseppe guides their recipes, promising creative takes on classic dishes. And in such a stylish location, I was excited to see what their menu was all about.

Ambience & We Think Perfect For

  • Atmosphere: as soon as we stepped into this restaurant, we were met with tranquility and elegance. There was an old-school Mediterranean vibe to the mint green colour scheme, white marble tables and abundance of plants, with a small plate of lemons on each table adding a pop of colour. There's even a branded classic car on the way to the toilets. It was busy when we visited, but still felt relaxed, and the open kitchen gave us a glance at the chefs working.
  • Perfect For: date night, authentic Italian plates.

Menu Highlights

Food⭐⭐⭐⭐

  • Bruschetta of the day (£12) - on this particular day, the crisp pieces of bread were topped with whipped sheep's ricotta, persimmon fruit, salad leaves and hazelnuts, finished with a balsamic glaze. The flavours came together beautifully; it tasted very fresh while still feeling indulgent, thanks to the generous serving of cheese and sweet vinegar glaze.
  • Delica pumpkin tortelli (£19) - a type of pasta so good that the restaurant takes their name from it, this tortelli was filled with a creamy pumpkin puree, served in a brown butter emulsion before being topped with crispy sage, parmesan and toasted hazelnut. The pasta was perfectly al dente, and the flavour was a good mix between earthy and cheesy.
  • Aubergine parmigiana (£22) - this is one of my favourite dishes, and Tortello's was just right. The tomato sauce was rich and flavourful, coating tender slices of aubergine and oozing mozzarella that made for the ultimate cheese pull.
  • Hazelnut tiramisu (£9) - this dessert was particularly excellent, featuring Maldon salt and salted caramel running through the fresh cream and coffee mix. It was also topped with hazelnuts for a little added crunch.

Drink: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

  • Bellini (£14) - a classic cocktail done right: the white peach puree was deliciously sweet and blended perfectly with the prosecco, and it was finished with a slice of fresh peach.

Our Overall Experience At Tortello London

DesignMyNight Review Out Of 5: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

I loved the feel of this hotel restaurant, which felt timelessly charming and made for a sophisticated meal out. The Tortello menu was full of classic Italian flavours, and each dish clearly showcased the chef's skills. My only qualm is that, for the price, I felt the portion sizes could be slightly larger, but there was nothing lacking when it came to taste. Definitely save room for dessert too, as the tiramisu is amazing.
