Our Review Of Nammos London: The New UK Outpost For This International Mediterranean Restaurant

First opening in Mykonos in 2003, Nammos has made quite a name for itself on the luxury dining scene over the years - now boasting restaurants everywhere from Cannes to Dubai. They've recently opened their first London site in Mayfair, bringing their signature Mediterranean charm that's designed to evoke a Greek island feel - while taking on global influences. The menu largely follows suit, with dishes from across the region, though there is a Japanese section too.

There's a decided London touch to the new venue, with DJ sets and a sleek, city feel alongside the Mediterranean look. It has been designed by Elastic Architects, who brought many of Nammos' other sites to life, spreading across two storeys. Naturally, an opening like this is big news, so I made sure to check it out for myself.

Ambience & We Think Perfect For

  • Atmosphere: this was one of the most gorgeous restaurants I'd been to in a while, with interiors fit for the Greek Gods. Across the two floors, we were surrounded by light, earthy tones and relaxed background music, and our welcoming waiters seated us at an elegant white marble table - looking towards their dazzling, gold-lit bar. It was clearly a classy affair, as everyone was dressed up (including the staff), and I felt as though it was a special occasion simply by being there.
  • Perfect For: celebrations, upmarket meals out.

Menu Highlights

Food⭐⭐⭐

The menu at Nammos is designed to be shared (though we won't judge if you don't), so we ordered several dishes to split between two

  • Avocado and asparagus maki (£12) - to start the meal, we sampled one of their Japanese dishes. Though I did think this section of the menu seemed a little out of place in an otherwise Mediterranean restaurant, they had done an excellent job of these sushi rolls. This is definitely one for avocado lovers, with creamy slices making up both the filling and the topping of the maki, alongside smaller pieces of asparagus and perfectly cooked rice.
  • Aubergine mille-feuille (£20) - my firm favourite of the night, this starter featured thin slices of aubergine stacked up in a tower, each one with a thin, crip batter. The layers were separated by a rich feta mousse, making for an indulgent bite - complemented nicely with basil.
  • “Anthotyro” ravioli (£38) - pastas make up a significant portion of the menu, alongside meat and seafood mains, and this one was calling my name. The moreish parcels were filled with an earthy, tangy mix of truffle and soft Greek cheese, topped with black truffle shavings for an extra indulgence.
  • Baked sweet potato (£10) - this delicious side dish was fluffy, flavourful and melted in the mouth - topped with salty pieces of crumbled feta. It complemented the meal nicely, and was a decent size to share between two or three people as a side.
  • Chocolate mousse (£14) - listed on their menu as an 'all-time classic', this dessert was fantastic. They served it tableside from a big bowl, showing how fresh it was. Combining dark, milk and white chocolate, this treat was heaven for anyone with a sweet tooth - light, airy and oh-so chocolatey.

Drink: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

  • Gardener (£16) - with Tanqueray No.10 gin as a base, this refreshing cocktail was made up of elderflower, apple, basil, cucumber and lemon. It was equal parts herby and citrussy, and it was an excellent accompaniment to our very rich meal.
  • Japanese Whisper (£17) - drawing inspiration from the Japanese side of their menu, this tipple combined lime-infused vodka and sake with watermelon and raspberry, creating a fruity concoction that was easy to drink and very summery.

Our Overall Experience At Nammos Mayfair

DesignMyNight Review Out Of 5: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

It's hard not to be impressed as soon as you enter this restaurant, as the decor is beautiful and there's a real luxurious feel from both the interior and the service. The Nammos menu upholds this standard, filled with decadent dishes and largely served onto your plates at the table. I would say that the prices are very high, and to me some of the plates didn't seem quite worth what they are charging, but if you're looking for a high-end experience then you can't go wrong. Their cocktails are equally brilliant, complementing the food perfectly. Overall, I would definitely recommend this place for a special occasion, or just if you fancy treating yourself.
