Review Of BiBi: The Award-Winning Indian Restaurant In Mayfair Launches A ‘Lates’ Menu For Dining After 9pm

It’s been a massive year for BiBi in Mayfair. Led by Chef Patron Chet Sharma, the contemporary Indian restaurant is named after the colloquial Urdu word for ‘grandma’ - a nod to Chet’s grandmothers.

At the 2026 National Restaurant Awards, BiBi clinched the Estrella Damm Sustainability Award (while landing at number 27 overall), a testament to years of sourcing traceable, ethical ingredients. On top of that, they’ve just launched a ‘Lates’ menu to encourage dining after 9pm - something I’ve admittedly never done on purpose.

BiBi Lates offers an extended cocktail list and a curated à la carte selection of tasting menu dishes, without the formality of the full sitting. So, with a stomach growling at underground-level frequencies, that’s exactly what I went to try.

Ambience & We Think Perfect For

  • Atmosphere: BiBi glowed like an amber beacon, drawing me into a convivial interior of antique lighting, mirrored glass, and polished mango wood. Its peachy hues juxtaposed with a striking stainless steel kitchen and bookshelf, adding a playful edge. I perched on a swivel-back chair lined with a paisley-patterned shawl - another nod to Chet’s grandmother. The influence of the women in his life felt personified here, balancing the harsh silver with warm, peachy terracotta.
  • Perfect for: late-night dining in London, a dinner date, and those who love fine dining and appreciate the creativity that comes with ordering à la carte.

Menu Highlights

Food: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

  • Hamachi and strawberry nimbu pani, with kala chana (£18) - I really loved how eccentric this dish was. The nimbu pani (an Indian-style lemonade) offered the perfect acidity that the strawberries and hamachi needed to balance such delicate flavours. It was incredibly summery and refreshing.
  • Kala chana dahi puri (£12) - this was a texture-contrasting flavour bomb of silky cultured yoghurt and sharp bursts of tamarind that took it to a whole new level.
  • Sharmaji’s Lahori chicken (£20) - oozing with flavour, tender, and bathed in a creamy cashew sauce, this was one chicken dish I won’t be forgetting in a hurry. There was a delightful char to the skin and real depth to the sauce.
  • Cotswolds’ paneer (£20) - I must preface this by saying that I am by no means a fan of truffle, but here it was not only accepted, but enjoyed - devoured, even. Every last morsel of light, buttery paneer was paired with flakes of truffle, infusing the mild cheese with a lovely umami twist.
  • Pineapple and coconut kulfi (£6) - dessert was super fun and presented like an ice cream on a stick (you couldn't escape ending up with chocolate around your chops). The outer coating of dark chocolate had a marvellous sheen and snap to it. The entire dish was fantastic.

Drink: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

  • Tamarind margarita (£20) - undoubtedly one of the best margaritas I’ve ever had. Made with Tapatio Reposado tequila - aged in ex-bourbon casks for four months, double the legal minimum - the drink carried a marvellously sweet and spicy kick, elevated by a rim of chaat masala. And yes, I had two.
  • Jaji Lemon largarita (£22) - this was made using Mezcal Amarás, which has a very high concentration of agave, as well as Espadin, elderflower, and Bero Pilsner. Smooth and refreshing, it had a welcoming smokiness that was subtle enough to peek through the floral notes on occasion, giving the drink a lot of character.

My Overall Experience At Bibi Mayfair

DesignMyNight Review Out Of 5: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

The buzzing ambience of BiBi thrived with its ‘Lates’ format; I found it to be a naturally warm and informal restaurant, but with attention to detail where it mattered, and that was wholeheartedly in the dishes that I was able to explore with an excitable freedom. While I found it hard to wait until 9pm to dine, I’d do it again in a heartbeat for BiBi.

BiBi Lates is available Monday to Thursday, from 9pm.
