Glasgow's newest new bar and restaurant has arrived in the basement of the Botanic Gardens Garage on Vinicombe Street. Created by the minds behind popular Kelvingrove restaurant Ox and Finch, Ka Pao takes its name from the Thai word for Holy Basil, and finds inspiration in the cuisine of Southeast Asia.

Some have already had a preview of Ka Pao’s style, as the restaurant had a residency in the Acid Bar of SWG3 in 2018 and several pop-up dinners. Owner and chef Jonathan MacDonald spent a lot of time working and travelling across Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam and Thailand, and have put together a menu that fuses their favourite dishes with a few tastes of home - think stir fried haggis with pepper, greens and fried egg, crispy chicken with spicy caramel sauce and Lindisfarne oysters with green nam jim.

The space itself will boast 120 covers against a backdrop of white and green tiles synonymous with the West End Landmark. There will also be a separate bar area, designed by the same team from Ka Pao’s sister site, Ox and Finch, that will be serving up its own unique sipping selection, including a sesame-laced old fashioned, lime leaf negronis and vegan wines.
