Brighton has a thriving plant-based foodie scene, with veggie and vegan haunts on pretty much every corner of our seaside town. However, it’s not all steamed vegetables, quinoa and salads, vegans can indulge in a plethora of lip-smacking junk food when they’re craving a meal with a little extra something. From bleeding burgers to gooey pizza, seitan chicken fingers to juicy hotdogs, explore our favourite spots for vegan junk food in Brighton and treat yo’ self.
Beelzebab have taken over the kitchen of The Hope & Ruin, serving 'dirty dogs' made of tofu and topped with sauerkraut, chilli non-karne or seitan ‘doner’ meat (served kebab-style). In the mood for a little extra carb-loading? Chomp away on fooled pork fries with BBQ jackfruit or, if you’re a little more adventurous, peanut butter and jelly fries with peanut satay and chilli jam.
Don’t be fooled by the name, this haven for fried chicken also dishes up some of Brighton’s best vegan grub. Take your omnivore mates to The Bok Shop and tuck into faux chicken burgers with chipotle slaw and chicken cucumber, Thai green curry spices or lashings of BBQ sauce; it’s a great option if you’re trying to feed a larger group of rumbling tummies.
Another one that’s ace for family outings, MEATLiquor’s diverse menu of drool-worthy junk food is perfect for veggies, vegans and meat-eaters alike. Top dishes include the build-you-own hotdog, which can be customised with an array of toppings, and the black bean chilli fries. Meanwhile, the seitan fingers, smothered in chilli sauce and served with garlic mayo, will have you dreaming for days.
Got a craving for some pizza? Check out The West Hill Tavern's menu of enticing slices, from the sorry miss jackfruit with pulled bbq seitan and jackfruit, to sgt pepperoni's heart club bad with smoky seitan sausage, hot red peppers and gooey mozzarella. The kooky creations at this place are sure to rival any meaty counterparts.
Brighton's boldest brewpub is so much more than a beer haven, it also doubles-up as an excellent spot for plant-based munching. With Humble Kitchen at the helm, Bison Beer serve a scrumptious signature herbivore burger with a B12 ‘bleeding’ patty, truffle mayo and pickled onion that perfectly compliments an ice-cold brew.
