More than just a mode of transport, boats have long been the site of booze-fuelled antics; from sea-faring pirates to Cambridge punts, ships and sips just work. However, if you're looking for some more established vessels to get the drinks in, we've rounded up all the best boat bars in the UK, including the cargo ship that became an iconic club and the floating restaurants offering some of the country's most exciting eats.

Leeds: The Dry Dock

Permanently anchored on Woodhouse Lane in the city centre, The Dry Dock is a cool pub in Leeds that's housed in a boat. Expect quirky interiors with traditional wooden tables and TV screens showing live sports, as well as a spacious beer garden surrounding the vessel.

There are plenty of refreshing drinks on offer, including classic and signature cocktails. Hungry? They also serve everything from fajita chicken rice bowls to mac 'n' cheese or stone-baked sourdough pizzas.

Liverpool: Floating Grace

Experience Liverpool like never before aboard Floating Grace, the city's only floating restaurant. This charming canal boat offers intimate dining with panoramic views of the iconic Albert Dock and surrounding waterways.

Inside, warm wood finishes and nautical décor create a cosy atmosphere perfect for romantic dinners, family celebrations, or private events. Enjoy classic British cuisine with set menus that include vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options while you cruise through the heart of Liverpool.

Bristol: Thekla

An iconic venue that also happens to be one of the UK's best boat bars? Thekla is the former cargo ship that now hosts some of the best bands and DJs from across the country, as well as many of Bristol's biggest party animals.

Glasgow: The Ferry

A former passenger ship that's docked on the banks of the River Clyde, The Ferry is a must for anyone visiting Glasgow. This cool venue boasts two decks and a mezzanine, with modern, stylish decor inside and great views of the water guaranteed.

They host regular events here, including live bands and tribute acts. As for the menu, think lasagne al forno, stuffed butternut squash and Greek salad, with plenty of different drinks available too.

Bristol: Grain Barge

You'll find Grain Barge in Bristol, floating on the harbour with amazing views of this buzzing area of the city. There are two stories of seating, including alfresco tables on the rooftop, where you can enjoy all kinds of seasonal dishes and drinks.

Tuck into the likes of baked rigatoni arrabbiata, clam chowder and vegetable tacos, washed down with pints or cocktails. You can even bring your dog along, and they host a wide range of events here too.
