LAZY SUSAN

Perfectly pitched, decidedly offbeat, proudly odd and always superbly acted, Lazy Susan are a comedy double act who have risen through the ranks of the Edinburgh Fringe over the past 5 years to become real sketch heavyweight.  Comprising of Celeste Dring and Freya Parker, both of whom are supremely talented and very silly performers, they have garnered rave reviews year after year for every show they’ve performed, from their Edinburgh Comedy Award nominated debut ‘Extreme Humans’ to 2018 5 star ‘Forgive Me Mother’. All transferred to London, with recent sold-out performances at the Leicester Square Theatre, and the Soho Theatre, where Lazy Susan also performed as part of PAPPY'S PRESENTS: THE SECRET DUDES SOCIETY.

Their act has been shared internationally as part of the NEW ORDER UK at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, and they have been featured on Sketchorama as well as writing and recording two series of East Coast Listening Post for BBC Radio 4 and their own comedy short, the self-titled Lazy Susan for BBC Two and iPlayer.

“They turn their...venue into the happiest room in town.” The Times

“Thought-provoking, subversive and, most importantly, extremely funny.” Evening Standard

“Comedy that shuns conventions and is forging its own unique comedic identity.” Edinburgh Festivals Magazine

RACHEL WHEELEY

Raised at Eton College, a school she was not allowed to attend, she has experienced life at the Bentley of educational establishments. After a decade of cream teas, croquet and boating adventures she moved to suburban London and now reflects on what she’s learned.

As heard on BBC Radio 4 Extra. Rachel has written for Newsjack, The News Quiz and Listen Against, was shortlisted for the BBC New Comedy Award 2018 and is the brains behind Towel Day – an annual celebration of the galactic genius of Douglas Adams.

JOSEPH MORPUGO

Joseph Morpurgo is a comedian, writer and improviser. He is a three-time Chortle Award winner (Award For Innovation; Breakthrough Act; and Comedian’s Comedian), as well as being nominated for the Edinburgh Comedy Award for sell-out shows ‘Soothing Sounds for Baby’, Truthmouth and Odessa.

He is well known for being co-creator and member of acclaimed improv comedy group Austentatious as well as guesting with groups including The Comedy Store Players and Baby Wants Candy.

“Hugely innovative.” Time Out

“Has entire rooms laughing uproariously.” Evening Standard

“High concept comedy, terrifically well executed.” Guardian

ANDREW RYAN

Irishman Andrew Ryan made his comedy circuit debut in 2008 when he spontaneously entered an open mic contest. Fast forward to 2017 and he is now one of the most exciting talents in recent years; in demand as an act and an MC at the biggest comedy clubs across Ireland and the UK.

Andrew’s quintessentially Irish storytelling abilities and cheeky, friendly demeanour make him a natural observational stand up. He has supported both Justin Moorhouse and Terry Alderton on their UK tours and performed his debut hour show Ryanopoly at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2012, receiving rave reviews. His follow-ups in 2014 and 2016 were equally well received and have catapulted him onto the international comedy circuit.

“Utterly brilliant, going to be a huge star.” Time Out

“A slight bemusement at the world, and a vulnerable like-ability that has the audience immediately on-side… impossible not to warm to him.” Chortle

“Made his set look easy, left us wanting more. A must see act.” The Stage

TOUSSAINT DOUGLAS

Lewisham’s finest. Toussaint is a young comedian with a wonderfully weird take on life. His absurdist tales mix the personal with the political, ensuring it’s never a dull moment as he unravels on stage.

AND YOUR RESIDENT HOST:

BEN VAN DER VELDE

One of the quickest wits around and a much-loved compere, he always brings a jam-packed back of nonsense, silliness and wisecracks to every gig he hosts.

"Sharp and crafty gagsmith, a life-giving compere." Chortle

"Wonderfully improvised riffs showcasing his impressive spontaneity and sharp tongue." Edinburgh Festivals Magazine

“The perfect comedy club host – he is a master of audience interaction. The audience weren’t just warmed up, but pretty hysterical even before the first act of the night hit the stage.”  Huffington Post
