PHIL ELLIS

Star of Taskmaster and award-winning comedian, Phil Ellis, has entertained audiences of all ages with his amalgamation of off-beat observational material and physical comedy.
Phil’s 2025 Edinburgh Fringe show, Soppy Stern, won the Malcolm Hardee Award for Act That Should Make a Million Quid, and was a joint-winner for Best Show for the ISH Edinburgh Comedy Awards. Ellis also brought back his award-winning hit kids show, Funz and Gamez, for a two week run entitled Funz and Gamez Rebootz. It won Best Fringe Kids Show at The List Festival Awards and is a previous winner of the Edinburgh Fringe Panel Prize. He has also starred and co-wrote three series of his own BBC Radio 4 sitcom Phil Ellis is Trying, co-starring Johnny Vegas, Lolly Adefope, Amy Gledhill, Alexei Sayle, Sindhu Vee, Jack Dee, Lee Mack, Mark Lamarr and Sean Lock. The series was nominated for a BBC Audio Award in 2019.

If you want to see an act matching the madcap anarchy of the original alternative comedy boom, matched to John Cleese's physicality and Johnny Vegas' hilarious pathos, then Phil Ellis is your man,
‘"The density of gags is impressive… There’s not many better exponents of this message-free, ego-free, knockabout comedy than Ellis in his prime."  Chortle
"Ellis’s performance is touched by comic genius. Every moment he is on stage something funny, and then funnier, is happening." Scotsman

AMY MATTHEWS

Amy Matthews is a stand-up comedian, whose intelligent, distinctive and warm style has seen her become a firm favourite on the live comedy circuit. She has performed several critically-acclaimed shows at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, including ‘I Feel Like I’m Made of Spiders’ and last year’s ‘Commute with the Foxes’ which was followed by a UK tour and saw Amy included in The List’s Hot 100. Amy has also been tour support for comedians Ed Byrne, Tom Allen, Tom Davis and Suzi Ruffell.

“A searing wit.” Rolling Stone
"Drily funny and giddily quirky." Scotsman

AND YOUR RESIDENT HOST:

BEN VAN DER VELDE

One of the quickest wits around and a much-loved compere, he always brings a jam-packed back of nonsense, silliness and wisecracks to every gig he hosts.

"Wonderfully improvised riffs showcasing his impressive spontaneity and sharp tongue." Edinburgh Festivals Magazine

“The perfect comedy club host – he is a master of audience interaction. The audience weren’t just warmed up, but pretty hysterical even before the first act of the night hit the stage.”  Huffington Post
