Our Review Of The Trafalgar: Sunday Roasts At The First New Pub On King’s Road In Over 100 Years

Found directly opposite Chelsea Town Hall, The Trafalgar hit our radar in 2025 by becoming the first pub to open on King’s Road in a whole century. Not only that, but Three Cheers Pub Group (who also own The Bedford in Balham) spent a hefty £2.4 million on bringing this Grade II-listed Cadogan Estate's old banking hall back to its former glory, while still retaining its grand Georgian features. I heard good things about their roasts too, so on a drizzly Sunday afternoon, we popped in to discover what all the fuss was about.

The Trafalgar pub in Chelsea is a looker, from the embroidered chairs to an array of colourful art.

Ambience & We Think Perfect For

  • Atmosphere: having opened in October last year, it’s clear that The Trafalgar already holds a special place in the heart of locals. It was absolutely heaving with birthdays and cosy Sunday catch-ups, plus as it’s dog-friendly, there were some gorgeous pooches too. This created a lively buzz, but note that because demand was high, we only had the table for two hours (top tip - you can request longer bookings in advance online). As for the interiors? Let’s just say this isn’t your usual boozer. Think stunning, soaring ceilings, burgundy walls, rustic mirrors and charming green lampshades. In keeping with the pub name, there were maritime references throughout, including travel-themed prints, vintage portraits and curious trinkets.
  • Perfect For: relaxed weekends

Service & Price

  • Service: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
  • Value For Money: ⭐⭐⭐
  • Cost: £100.50

A collage of roast dinners, bright cocktails and a duo of desserts (a brown cake with cream alongside crumble presented in a skillet)

You can be sure of comforting food here, plus check out the rise on that Yorkie pud.

Menu Highlights

All roasts came with zesty broccoli, carrots, well-seasoned cabbage and parsnips that had a vibrant sweetness. Personally, I would have liked the herby potatoes to be crispier, plus the Yorkshire pudding was unfortunately a bit dry too.

Food⭐⭐⭐

  • Leek and potato soup (£8) - this starter was made for Sundays: creamy, warming and drizzled in parsley oil. The focaccia had a delicious charred flavour as well.
  • Butternut squash and spinach Wellington (£21.50) - the addition of lentils provided a earthy, nutty dimension to this vegan roast, working in complete harmony with the well-cooked vegetables.
  • Suffolk Red pork belly roast (£26) - expect a generously portioned slab of meat here, and my date loved the crackling - it had a great crunch.
  • Baby Guinness cake (£9) - you could really taste the stout in this moist, decadent dessert and the Baileys mascarpone was a wonderful accompaniment.

Drink: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

  • Seven Seas Breeze (£12.50) - summer officially came to King's Road with this cheerful sip that had a nice frothiness; blending spiced rum, pineapple and lime. The cranberry provided a welcome tartness too.
  • Ferreira Ruby Port (only £3 when bought with a pudding) - I took advantage of this fantastic deal, and it finished off my meal perfectly. Prepare for a full-bodied, rich glass with a satisfying berry aroma which glided down smooth.

Our Overall Experience At The Trafalgar Chelsea

DesignMyNight Review Out Of 5: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

The Trafalgar pub down King’s Road made all our Bridgerton dreams come true, with the beautiful Regency surrounds that were originally built by Sir Reginald Blomfield (who also redesigned Chequers, the prime minister's country house, no less). I had a lovely time, and it’s the kind of place where you could easily settle in for the whole day, particularly with comedy nights running regularly downstairs. It only needs a couple of adjustments to the dishes and things could be even better, but big shout out to host Giuseppe who was friendly and attentive; impressive considering how busy service was.
