Unless Primrose Hill is magically transformed into a winter wonderland, chances are that skiing is well and truly off the cards for 2020, a fact that is likely to piste off a lot of Londoners. But while salopettes and slaloming may be a no-go zone, the world of après is still very much alive and kicking. From cosy alpine-themed bars to Champagne chalets and oozing fondues, these snowy spots are channelling major Val Thoren vibes in the heart of the capital. Strap on your goggles and check out our guide on where to après ski in London. After all, the snow must go on.
Found in the heart of Fulham, Neverland has once again undergone its annual transformation into the snow-topped Winterland. Decked out with cosy chalets and twinkling lights, this pop-up wouldn't look out of place at the base of Whistler. Head here on the weekend for the big and boozy Alpine Bottomless Brunch, which will see you gorging on truffle arancini balls, flameless fondue and sprawling charcuterie platters, while making the most of two hours of free-flowing fizz, beer and cocktails. Better yet? Turn up in your ski suit and you'll bag yourself a free shot.
The king of pop-ups is back, bringing alpine-themed fun to the heart of Southbank. Offering a slightly more classy affair to the usually debaucherous après ski proceedings, his cosy Winter Lodge is serving up oozing pots of cheese fondue, classic French mountain onion soup and boozy hot chocolates. A wonderland of wooden cladding, faux fur throws and quaint ski memorabilia, the two-storey shack is the perfect spot to rest and recuperate after slaloming through London's Christmas crowds.
Officially opening on the 3rd of December, Montague on the Gardens Ski Lodge is just about as close as you'll get to the Alps without boarding an EasyJet flight (and there's no excess fare to store your snow gear either). Offering pine trees, piste maps and actual falling snow, this gorgeous Holborn spot is a truly immersive affair. Ski passes can be purchased for £38, and include mini bratwurst, deep-fried Camembert and a selection of mulled drinks and flavoured shots - all without leaving Zone 1.
An all-new London winter pop-up for 2020, Pergola Paddington is transforming into Miracle on Kingdom Street, kicking off Christmas with some serious bells and whistles. Adding a touch of luxe to you London après ski proceedings, the chalets here will be decked out by Moët & Chandon - so expect elegant design and Champagne aplenty. And if you're happy to pass on the finer things? Then there will also be a huge beer hall, complete with live DJs and dancing on the tables. Just like Courchevel, only a little warmer.
Hearing the cries of Londoners everywhere, the team at HUCKSTER have only gone and created their very own Val D-themed weekly bash. Injecting some snow-fuelled fun into your midweek proceedings, this boozy event will see the Paddington venue transformed into a far-flung party chalet, with live DJs, Swiss cheese and chocolate fondue. And après wouldn't be après without a healthy dose of booze, so there will also be 45 minutes of free-flowing cosmopolitans... ski ya later Thursday morning meetings.
A year-round celebration of all things alpine, The White Haus is a quirky Farringdon pub that promises to transport you to the snow-capped mountains. Open from 10am 'til late, it's the ideal place for a daytime bash, with warming fondues, aged sirloin steaks and bubble and squeak keeping you fuelled throughout. Perfect for group get-togethers and romantic date nights alike, there's a choice of private spaces, from a cosy winter lounge to a suspended gondola lift.
While the iconic Electric Ballroom is still unable to host live gigs, it's transforming into a giant socially-distanced Bavarian-style beer. Packed full of independent UK craft ales, live brass bands and incredible DJs, this London winter pop-up is promising the same buzzing atmosphere as all your favourite après hotspots. And for when those post-slope hunger pangs strike? There'll be a selection of gourmet bratwurst, pretzels and churros courtesy of the gang at Brat Bros.
Skylight has long been a mainstay on London's winter bar scene, but now the rooftop haunt is welcoming a shiny new après ski lodge - perfect for a night of chalet partying. Resident DJs will spin tracks 'til close, while guests gather around lantern-lit tables digging into a selection of hearty dishes, from beef cassoulet to tartiflette and chicken schnitzel. There'll also be a menu of festive-inspired sips, and of course, steaming mulled wine aplenty.
Another Southbank beauty, Bar Under The Bridge is one of London's cosiest wintertime drinking spots. Offering heated chalet booths, fleecy blankets and a selection of board games, it's the perfect place to hole up with your nearest and dearest. Toast to the festive period with hot toddies and rum cocktails, before digging into a stacked feast from Baggio Burger. Our top pick? The Christmas burger, which comes topped with taleggio, cranberry sauce and parma ham stuffed inside a panettone bun.
And if all of the above has got you already scared of the hangover? The Sky Lounge at Shangri-La is offering a more sophisticated après ski-themed afternoon tea. Sit back and admire the mega views from The Shard as you raise your pinkies and sip on Champagne. The luxury menu includes delicate finger sandwiches and scones, alongside Black Forest chocolate cake and snowball coconut mousse. Just like Aspen, only posher.
