'The branches of the Astral Corridor weave through time and space, echoing fractured realities once thought forgotten. The archivists of the Black Archives work tirelessly to catalogue these tales, reaching into the furthest depths of the corridor to glimpse what can never be.’

Black Archives is a TTRPG story spotlight event, as our house GMs weave tales from across the multiverse. These original stories are self-contained and setting-agnostic, intended for both experienced and newer players. We'll be featuring a variety of indie TTRPG systems alongside our regular D&D5E offerings!

Each session will feature it's own unique system and requirements, so be sure to read the full event description before ordering.

Tonight, the tales you can expect to uncover are:

Operation SILENT NIGHT (HOUSE GM: JAMIE)

SYSTEM: Delta Green
THE STORY: You are preparing the roast potatoes. The phone rings; a number you know all too well. “Sorry, honey, I have to take this”. A mother in Massachusetts has had a deeply disturbing encounter with “Santa Claus”. You catch the next flight out. You, again, neglect your home life in service of an organisation that no-one will ever know existed.

This is a game of Lovecraftian horror and conspiracy, set in 2010s America. You play deniable Agents; seemingly ordinary people already enmeshed within the bureaucracy of the US Government. Your actual job, for which you receive neither pay nor recognition, is to ensure that horrors beyond comprehension are kept out of the public eye. Welcome to Delta Green.

This session includes an introduction to the system, which is similar to Call of Cthulhu. No prior experience is required, and pregens are provided.

PRE-GENS PROVIDED?: Yes.

CONTENT WARNINGS: Psychological horror, body horror, partner abuse and gaslighting (history of, off-screen/veiled), family breakdown, depictions of mental illness including PTSD, child endangerment, worms.

Welcome to Doskvol (HOUSE GM: Maxim)

SYSTEM: Blades in the Dark
THE STORY: An introduction to Blades in the Dark for new players.

You’re in a haunted Victorian-era city trapped inside a wall of lightning powered by demon blood, and you're here to do some crimes. It's Dishonored meets Peaky Blinders.

Blades in the Dark is a TTRPG about a crew of daring scoundrels seeking their fortunes on the haunted streets of an industrial-fantasy city. There are heists, chases, occult mysteries, dangerous bargains, bloody skirmishes, and, above all, riches to be had — if you’re bold enough to seize them.

You and your fledgling crew must thrive amidst the threats of rival gangs, powerful noble families, vengeful ghosts, the Bluecoats of the city watch, and the siren song of your scoundrel’s own vices. Will you rise to power in the criminal underworld? What are you willing to do to get to the top?

PRE-GENS PROVIDED?: Yes. Blades in the Dark uses pre-made playbooks - similar to Powered by the Apocalypse - for character creation. These will be provided and discussed at the start of the session.

CONTENT WARNINGS: Players will very much lead the content of the game, but both violence and anti-police sentiment are to be expected.

The Battle for Humanity (HOUSE GM: GILLI)

SYSTEM: Founding Titan (Link to PHB available below)
THE STORY: Five years ago, the titans that stalk the walls of your city finally broke through, and you were forced to flee, as your family, friends and homes were destroyed. Everything you had ever known - taken from you in an instant.
Now, five years later, trained as specialist soldiers, you have returned to the ruins of your home and must fight to take it back for the sake of humanity, no matter the cost.

PRE-GENS PROVIDED?: Character creation material will be provided on the Arcanist's Tavern Discord before hand and character skills can be decided before, or at table. A link to the Founding Titan PHB can be found here.

CONTENT WARNINGS: Gore, Peril, Cannibalism, Hopelessness, Graphic Violence, Blood, Madness, Death, Loss, Family Loss

All players who attend our events must read and agree to our Code of Conduct. By playing at the Arcanist's Tavern you agree to abide by the terms of our Code of Conduct at all times.
Please note, all sessions begin at 6:30 promptly. If you arrive after games have begun, there is no guarantee that we will be able to seat you at a table.

My first time at the Arcanist Tavern and first time playing RPG, and I had so much fun! Really excellent starting point either for complete beginners or those who just want to try a new game.
