Our Review Of Viajante87 Notting Hill: Trailblazing, Award-Winning Cocktails Hidden Beneath The Streets

Staying above ground is overrated. To seek out the very best creative cocktails, using exotic and unfamiliar ingredients, you’ll have to go below the surface, as that’s where the magic happens. This led me to a stunning hideaway, Viajante87 London, moments from Notting Hill Gate tube.

Aptly translating to 'traveller' in Spanish, this subterranean paradise draws inspiration from Latin America; exactly where depends on locations the team have visited recently (right now, it spans Mexico, Argentina, Peru and Brazil). Before heading downstairs, I knew we were in for a treat, as the pedigree was undeniable. Viajante87 is listed in the UK’s top 50 cocktail bars for 2026, boasts a 300-strong agave-based spirit collection and just a quick Google will reveal some pretty impressive reviews. But what did I think? Keep reading to find out more

Ambience & We Think Perfect For

  • Atmosphere: initially, I was struck by the members’ club, speakeasy feel, but after looking more closely, I spotted some fantastic finer details. Think flickering candles, black marble tables, towering tropical plants and plush teal velvet seats, plus ceiling lights that resembled Quintana Roo's famous cenotes. But my favourite feature was the acoustic-quality, wood panelled walls: not only were they carved into pretty shapes like sunshine and waves, but it also reflected Viajante87's focus on music. Speaking of which, expect upbeat, carnival tunes that were perfect for the after-work Friday crowd.
  • Perfect for: slinky date nights.

Menu Highlights

Food⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Los Mochis is just behind Viajante87, and they're both owned by the same company. This means you get to sample a selection of incredible snacks from the much-loved Notting Hill restaurant while sipping beaut cocktails.

  • Truffle guacamole on crispy rice (£23) – these bites were sensational. Think bouncy mouthfuls with a crunchy outer layer that were delightfully chewy. The fresh truffle shavings were a luxe addition but provided a nice earthiness, working in complete harmony with the silky avocado. I could have eaten many more.
  • Falafelito (£15) – prepare for a twist on falafel, showcasing perfectly neat, herby golden spheres. I liked the toasted sesame dotted throughout, plus the accompanying peanut sauce had a great kick and stopped everything from being too dry.

Drink: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

  • Aji Mama (£16) – a best seller for good reason. This fruity cousin of the spicy margarita delivered, from the peach and lime notes to the unusual Peruvian yellow chilli pepper – bringing fire with every sip.
  • Blood Moon (£17) – another fan favourite, my date’s slightly smoky tipple was similar in consistency to a pisco sour, topped with an Instagrammable purple flower. The foaminess was lovely, plus the mix of tequila, Aperol and lemon worked like a dream.
  • Horchata Colada (£17) – made using a popular tigernut-laced soft drink in Mexico and tasting of cookies, this creamy cocktail benefitted from a blend of pineapple, coconut, cinnamon and two different rums. An innovative, playful Latin American take on a pina colada, if you will
  • Mole Manhattan (£18) – those after delicate, shy tipples should look away now, as this was one hell of a boozy, punchy cocktail. I loved the skill on show, as even though it had a translucent, honey colour, this little number tasted remarkably like chocolate. How on earth do they do that? The sesame-infused vodka had epic depth of flavour and the brandy-soaked cherry on top brought everything together.

Our Overall Experience At Viajante87 Notting Hill

DesignMyNight Review Out Of 5: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to Viajante87, where they craft cocktails using spirits, spices, seeds and fruits that I have never tried before. They really push the boundaries, serving thoughtful, carefully considered sips without being gimmicky. Service was also next level; everyone we met was so passionate about their drinks offering and knew every last detail, plus I enjoyed the collective ‘hola’ from the team as you walk in – as if you’re welcomed into family.
