Though it may be a popular party spot in the evenings, by day The Holy Hobo is cooking up a storm. This versatile venue features comfy leather sofas and a dark colour scheme, with a few pops of colour thrown in. Of course, they've got a long list of creative cocktails up for grabs too.

Their burgers start from as little as £6.95, with student discounts available on top of that. Load up on juicy beef patties drizzled in Biscoff gravy mayo, or try out one of their kebabs, steaks or salads instead. Plus, they offer three small plates for £15.

As You Like It Restaurant Jesmond

As you begin to head out of Jesmond and into town, you'll stumble across As You Like It, a charming restaurant bar that's home to all sorts of fun. The spacious venue is split into multiple sections, from the main bar to a mezzanine dining area and even a stage where they host live music.

The decor is rustic and quirky, with lots of cosy corners to relax in with a hearty meal. Their British-inspired menu spans chicken parmos, beer-battered North Sea haddock and chestnut mushroom pappardelle, alongside some international dishes like Thai spiced mussels. Sunday roasts, bottomless brunches and afternoon tea are all on the table too.

Taking its name from the bicycle-riding delivery drivers of Mumbai, Dabbawal is a fantastic Indian restaurant in Jesmond. They provide a casual but stylish setting for dining in, with a street food-inspired menu that's filled with authentic, flavourful dishes.

Get stuck into everything from paneer kofta to Old Delhi-style butter chicken and marinated lamb chops, or try the chef's surprise menu for a bit of everything. And on Sundays, their Indian-inspired roast dinner is a must-try.

Jam Jar

Proving that Osborne Road isn't just for student nights out, Jam Jar is a cool cocktail bar and restaurant serving a delicious all-day menu. This friendly haunt promises bottomless brunches and some of the best burgers in the city, as well as a buzzing atmopshere and a covered outdoor terrace.

From Buffalo chicken burgers with creamy ranch to barbecue bacon patties and loaded fries, there's a US-style menu to enjoy. Or a little earlier in the day, you can get your hands on shakshuka, chorizo hash and breakfast quesadillas, to name just a few options.

The Fat Hippo Jesmond

Known for serving some of the best burgers in the whole country, Fat Hippo was born in Newcastle back in 2010. Their Jesmond outpost is small but mighty, whipping up their signature patties made from 100% Northumbria beef - with great vegan and gluten-free options available too.

Their burgers come loaded up with toppings like Cajun onion strings, smoked bacon and even chunky peanut butter - there are combinations here that you won't find anywhere else. If you've got room for dessert, their ice cream cookie sandwich is to-die-for, all to be enjoyed in a laid-back space.

Arlo Restaurant Jesmond

A West Jesmond favourite that has cured many a hangover come Sunday morning, Arlo is pretty much the brunch king. The whimsical interior has an alpine theme, reflecting chef-owner Lucas Morrison's travels around the world and his grandfather's Swiss background. What's more, the sunny terrace is great for summer.

Fuel up on mid-morning plates like Belgian waffles with Dubai chocolate yoghurt, smoked salmon bagels and Turkish eggs. That's not all though, they also serve lunch and evening small plates. We're talking alpine burgers, Thai red chicken curry, deep-fried brie with hot honey cranberries and much more.

If small plates are your thing, be sure to check out Long Friday. A neighbourhood restaurant owned by food writer and restaurateur Anna Hedworth, known for her first venue Cook House, it was awarded Best Local Restaurant in Yorkshire & the North East 2025 by The Good Food Guide.

The local gem boats a warm, inviting atmosphere, with a pastel pink colour scheme and comfortable booth seating inside. Tuck into the likes of curried tempura leeks, bavette steak in hot pepper glaze and barbecued aubergine with a hazelnut chilli crisp - washed down with natural wine, cocktails or beers from Wylam Brewery.

Sohe Restaurant Jesmond

With a kitchen run by award-winning chef Parichat Somsri-Kirby, Sohe boasts some of the best Asian food in the area - previously awarded Newcastle's Oriental Restaurant of the Year by Creative Oceanic. The decor is equally enticing, promising a dark, moody colour scheme and lots of foliage lining the walls.

Their pan-Asian menu features the likes of teryaki salmon, beef and black bean stir-fry or tofu pad Thai, and they even serve an Asian twist on Sunday dinner. Additionally, their cocktail menu is excellent.

Pizzeria Francesca

If you've ever wandered along Manor House Road, you're bound to have seen a queue snaking out of Francesca's. This Italian restaurant in Jesmond has been around since 1983, attracting countless customers every day with its walk-in-only policy and welcoming atmosphere. The interiors feature an eclectic mix of posters, photos, tiles and plants, creating a homely, mismatched feel.

They've got an extensive menu of Italian favourites to choose from, but what draws most people in is the half pizza/ half pasta option - a great way to try more than one thing. Pick from penne arrabiata, spinach and ricotta ravioli, creamy pesto tagliatelle and more, paired with all kinds of pizza toppings. Fern Dining Room & Bar

A neighbourhood restaurant on St George's Terrace, Lovage has earned a place in the Michelin Guide three years in a row, as well as having won an AA Rosette for culinary excellence. The intimate dining room is filled with warm colours and pretty greenery, with a lovely outdoor terrace to boot.

Head chef and co‑owner Kleo Tabaku combines his Albanian roots with his passion for both Italian cooking and quality North East produce.
