One of the most famous jazz clubs in the world, Blue Note can be found in the heart of Greenwich Village. Since its opening in 1981, it has hosted performances by big names like Dizzy Gillespie, Chick Corea and Ray Charles, on a stage that lets you get right up close to the action.

Expect intimate interiors with low lighting and close-set tables, as well as a fully stocked bar serving up a range of creative cocktails. If you swing by a little earlier, they're serving a classic American food menu, or just head down to dance to the non-stop live music.

One of the most luxurious New York City clubs, The Carnegie Club is a late-night cocktail and cigar lounge that oozes traditional charm. it flaunts 20-foot ceiling, a huge fireplace and hand-carved 18th-century bookcases, creating an elegant but warm feel.

It's one of the only places in the city where you can smoke cigars indoors, paired with single malt scotch or a classic cocktail. They're best known for their famous Sinatra Saturdays which has been running for more than two decades, featuring live music from Steven Maglio and the Stan Rubin 11-Piece Orchestra.

Since 2014, it has been known as a pillar of New York's underground music scene, showcasing everything from house to techno, disco and more. For a more intimate experience, head to their Bad Room for more relaxed sets and chilled vibes.

6. Birdland Jazz Club NYC

Today, they combine old-school charm with some more modern touches, with comfortable seating and warm lighting, with a large stage at the front of the room. Downstairs, you can also find a more intimate cabaret experience in the Birdland Theater.

7. 230 Fifth Rooftop Bar

Dance the night away to live DJ sets, and check out their themed parties too. They also serve a range of cocktails that are all less than $20, from a frozen mango margarita to a raspberry mojito or the 230 Sparkling Candy.

8. Somewhere Nowhere NYC

9. Outer Heaven

A high-end cocktail lounge and intimate club space that's hidden away on Chrystie Street, Outer Heaven was brought to life by by nightlife developer Jack Mulqueen and Montreal's Philip Hazan Design. The aesthetic is a combination of Japanese and Scandinavian decor, combining minimalism and functionality.

They're known for having potentially the best sound system per square foot in NYC, playing a mix of genres to appeal to a wide audience. You'll sometimes even find bartenders spinning vinyl between DJ sets - when they're not whipping up mezcal and sake concoctions, that is.

Co-owned by actor Alan Cumming and nightlife promoter Daniel Nardicio, Club Cumming is a diverse, welcoming nightclub in Manhattan's East Village. It began as a pop-up in Cumming's Broadway dressing room during his run in Cabaret, becoming a beloved permanent fixture in 2017.

The glamorous, maximalist space is filled with red velvet drapes, chandeliers, and disco balls, alongside murals painted by Cumming's husband. They host an eclectic mix of events, from drag shows to burlesque, cabaret, stand-up comedy and even impromptu Broadway performances. You can expect the odd surprise celebrity appearance too.
