Sorry, the places listed below don't have online bookings available, but we hope you still find this list useful for your night out!

1. Bar Blondeau

  • Location: 80 Wythe Avenue, 6th Floor, Brooklyn, NY 11249
  • Price: $$$
  • Cuisine: European, seafood
  • Views of: the Empire State Building, the Chrysler Building, One World Trade Center, and the East River
  • Why we recommend: you can catch some gorgeous sunsets at Bar Blondeau, alongside some fantastic river views. What better way to wind down than with a glass of natural wine and a couple of small plates - our favourites include the albacore tuna and petite steak au poivré

Perched on the sixth floor of the Wythe Hotel in Williamsburg, Bar Blondeau is a coastal European-inspired restaurant and bar with sweeping views of the Manhattan skyline and the East River. Venture up and you'll find that the interior is warm and minimalist, outfitted in soft woods, brass accents, and vintage touches that nod to mid-century Paris. Large windows flood the room with natural light, especially at sunset, when the space glows in golden hues.

The menu leans light and seafood-forward, with French, Spanish, and Portuguese influences. Expect burrata with sungold tomato, oregano, and basil, Atlantic mussels with chilli on sourdough, and warm plates of Japanese fried chicken, or petite steak au poivre. Complementing these dishes is an impeccably curated wine list and an inventive cocktail program, of which you can enjoy for an affordable price during 'sunset hour' (5pm 'til 7pm).

2. Saishin At Gansevoort Rooftop

  • Location: 18 9th Avenue, Meatpacking District, NY 10014
  • Price: $$$$
  • Cuisine: Japanese
  • Views of: the Empire State Building and One World Trade Center
  • Why we recommend: if you're looking for a slinky date spot (and they happen to be a sushi lover), we highly recommend visiting this restaurant. The tasting menus give you the chance to try new dishes you never would've before, and the drinks, like the sake margarita, are brilliantly inventive

When it comes to rooftop restaurants, NYC has its fair share, and one of its standout spots is Saishin at Gansevoort Rooftop. Tucked atop the Gansevoort Meatpacking, it offers a panoramic skyline view, stretching from the Hudson to the glittering towers of Midtown, and serves some expertly executed omakase. Translating to 'trust the chef,' the omakase experience here is both refined and refreshingly unpretentious.

The fish is pristine and often flown in daily from Japan. Highlights might include buttery otoro, perfectly torched uni, or tori karaage (Jamestown chicken with a cod roe remoulade). Choose from a 14 ($135) or 19-course ($175) omakase with an optional chef's sake pairing ($55) and dig in, surrounded by warm woods, low lighting, and minimal design. Afterwards, head out to the wraparound terrace and sip on a Japanese-inspired cocktail as the sun sets over the Hudson.
