DMN Area Guides: Brixton

Take a stroll down Coldharbour Lane on any given Friday night and you’ll find a bustling nightlife scene, with revellers flocking from all corners of London to experience that Brixton buzz. Here lies a melting pot of different cultures all tied together with a strong neighbourhood feel, with everything from legendary nightclubs to deep-south inspired BBQ joints within a short walk of the station. Here’s five of our favourite picks for a night out in Brixton!

Barrio

Like your cocktails to go big on the tequila, mezcal, pisco and rum? Good, because there's all kinds of exotic spirits for you to wrap your chops around at the brand new Barrio on Acre Lane. Beer fans won't feel left out either, with brewery-fresh pints and Latin craft brews on the cards as well as an unmissable menu of vibrant Peruvian food, so it's absolutely a good idea to come hungry.

Free mojitos, Peruvian skewers and a fun-time party atmosphere await at the colourful Barrio.

Pop Brixton

If ever there was a place to sum up the ambition and drive of this part of London town, it’s Pop Brixton. Set up as a project to support local jobs, training and enterprise, some of Brixton and Lambeth’s most exciting start-ups can be found doing their thing in a complex created by an award-winning designer. A hotbed of activity with something new to try every time you visit, there's laughter yoga sessions, cosy cinema events, free music Fridays and even a sporty alfresco terrace going down inside Pop's signature shipping containers.

A gathering of different pop-up cultures, Pop Brixton is ideal for a chilled summer's day out.

Three Eight Four

After a place with a stripped back, intimate feel? This front-runner for a date night in Brixton offers a neat choice of meat, fish and veggie sharing plates as well as a must-try list of experimental cocktails in a cosy and low-lit location on Coldharbour Lane. Pull up a bar stool, order a bespoke Ziggy Stardust in honour of Brixton’s most famous son and return for brunch at the weekends, when you can get fluffy American-styled pancakes and bottomless coffee for just a fiver.

Three Eight Four's inventive and experimental cocktails feature alongside a selection of tried-and-tested classics.

Chip Shop BXTN

Sitting pretty on a corner plot where Coldharbour Lane meets Atlantic Road, the Chip Shop Bxtn is so much more than a standard chippie. It’s also a place that pays tribute to the glory days of old-skool hip-hop, where graffiti murals of some of the biggest legends are printed all over the shop and a killer playlist of their hits reigns supreme on the speakers. Chow down on the freshest fish of the day while you have a sing and a dance to some classic tracks at this chippie with a twist.

Fresh fish & chips, interesting alternative plates and a playlist of non-stop hip-hop gold characterise Chip Shop Bxtn.
