What they say:
From the creators behind globally successful Japanese restaurants, Zuma and Roka, Oblix at The Shard offers two venues within the 32nd floor of the building. Inspired by the impressive stature of the building, chef Rainer Becker has brought a New York feel to the tallest building in London town. The Rotesserie and Grill Bar includes a wood-fired oven, spit-roast and charcoal grill for an authentic New York taste, blended with European flavours.
Over in the elegant lounge bar cocktails and spirits are served with ice chiseled straight from large filtered blocks; an innovation Becker himself introduced to London at Fitzrovia, in 2004. For a more relaxed dining experience the bar serves food all day, with special menus for brunch, lunch and dinner. A premier for London, their interactive sommelier station focuses on wines of all kinds; from vintage to fine wine to aide guests exploring formerly unknown grapes.
What we say:
Oblix is a classy mixture of fine dining, laid back indulgence, and London landmark spotting. Oblix's New York vibe allows Becker to showcase his extensive knowledge of world cuisine, moving away from the oriental tastes of Zuma and Roka. What will remain is his perfectionism towards every aspect of the experience. Oblix frames the panoramic views of the city among effortless class and warm earthy tones. With the London skyline as the focal point, it was integral to Becker's concept that the interior did not distract or take away from the 32 floor high view. No doubt the view, menu and wine list will attract affluent romantics and professionals, so expect a varied and interesting crowd to people-watch; that's if you can drag your eyes away from the breathtaking views.
