Pizza Punks is a brand new restaurant located in the heart of the city centre. It creates a funky dining experience centred on a classic favourite and we headed on down to try it out.

The Venue

Sitting on St. Vincent Street, between George Square and Central Station, it really couldn’t be closer to the action of the city centre. It’s a large bustling open plan venue with high ceilings and a bulky selecton of tables that really scream of New York City interiors and urban pizza-houses. The low hanging lights and bare neon lit signs give it a minimalist look and lively music adds to the feel-good atmosphere thanks to an open plan kitchen and industrial vibe.

The Food and Drink

The main focus is of course pizza, and they really have got it covered. We couldn’t resist the option of being able to add our choice of as many toppings as we liked for just £9 and got everything we thought would fit from the endless list of different types of cheeses, meats, mushrooms- everything! However the combinations of toppings created by the chefs included novel delights for a pizza lover, like chocolate pulled pork and lemon thyme roast chicken. Notably there were gluten-free base options, and even vegan cheese- a rarity in pizza joints.

From the many options of sides to choose from we ordered a bruschetta and salad to share. The salad, at £6, was probably a bit small but the bruschetta, at £4.50, topped with avocado, corn, hummus, lime, and chilli was an excellent mix of flavours.

While at this stage we had definitely had enough food, we decided to try to tackle one of the sweet pizzas. The generous portion of ice-cream, banana, and Nutella on a fresh doughy base was a decadent delight at £6.

The drinks menu is extensive with everything from cocktails to numerous types of gin, and includes options you didn’t even realise you were missing like alcoholic ice cream floats. All of these were in the £6-£8 price range. We played it safe and opted for a couple of the many beers available on draught which were all between £3.50 and £4.50.

The Atmosphere

There really was every type of diner and group here, probably showing the universality of a love for pizza. Definitely suitable for dates, group catch ups, and it is clear that they are happy to cater to parties of children and adults alike. The atmosphere is fun, quirky, and casual, with friendly, chatty servers who are enthusiastic about the food.
