The Estrella Damm Top 50 Gastropubs 2026 have been announced and the lineup is a knock-out.
What Are The Estrella Damm Top 50 Gastropubs Awards & How Are They Chosen?
The Estrella Damm Top 50 Gastropubs was created in 2009 to celebrate the best food pubs in the country. To select their list, they have a voting academy made up of more than 350 industry experts representing areas across the UK, featuring authoritative figures such as food writers, top chefs, pub guide editors, gastropub operators and more, who each vote for their top four gastropubs (with at least one being from the region they represent).
Who Won In This Year's Top 50 Gastropub Awards?
2026's winners were announced on Monday 26th January, and the number one spot went to The Devonshire in Soho, which is co-owned by Oisín Rogers (previously of Guinea Grill), Charlie Carroll (Flat Iron founder) and Ashley Palmer-Watts (former Heston Blumenthal chef).
This relatively new addition to London's pub scene opened in late 2023, but is already famous for serving some of the city's best pints of Guinness with punters spilling out onto the streets of Soho from noon 'til night. They're also lauded for their "premium quality, homemade food, focusing on the best of British produce using its own in-house butcher and bakery", as stated by Estrella Damm.
In second place, The Unruly Pig in Woodbridge - who have previously won first place in 2025 and 2022 - with The Red Lion and Sun (London), The Woolpack Inn (Slad), The Star Inn (Harome) and The Angel at Heton (Hetton) joining it in the top 5. Other highlights across the UK include The Broad Chare from Newcastle Upon Thyme coming in at 15, The Mariners In Cornwall hitting 27 and Halifax's Shibden Mill Inn at spot 49.
London certainly waved the flag high for best-in-class gastropubs, with several other pubs crowned, including Red Lion & Sun, the Bull & Last, the Harwood Arms, the Baring, the Canton Arms, the Clarence, Marksman Public House, The Hero of Maida, The Tamil Crown, The French House, The Waterman's Arms, and The Knave of Clubs. It's also worth noting that The Kerfield Arms (Camberwell, London) has made its first appearance in the list, after only opening in 2025 - very impressive indeed.
