RAW LISTENING NIGHTS

Described as 'one of the best nights in London,' RAW listening nights are the cure for the common disconnect – blending culture, connection and cool in some of London’s hottest venues. Borne from one woman’s itch for collecting stories and speaking to strangers, today RAW is the first-of-its-kind, flagship event of all-female, culture agency, What Does Not.

RAWs are about as ‘London’ as it gets:

  • Diverse – no two RAWs are ever the same, and the crowd is as patchwork as the city
  • Dynamic – we plug into, and platform the many subcultures and tribes of London
  • Plugged in – from members’ clubs to the hottest venues, RAWs give access to the best spots in town
  • Entertaining – because why can’t the revolution be a bloody good time?
  • Unapologetic about wanting to make a difference

WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT?
Every RAW centres around uncensored storytelling by everyday people, paired with live music and art – curated around a chosen theme. Taking over a different slick venue every time, RAWs adapt to the space and can be intimate affairs of 100 people, to a microfestival of 350 people – with food pop ups, makers’ markets, screenings etc. Why the theme? It helps discover our shared humanity through that particular lens – without a ‘kumbaya’ vibe in sight.

MAY THEME: INTIMACY
WHERE: THE OLD QUEEN'S HEAD, ISLINGTON First Floor Club Room
WHEN: MAY 13TH, 6.30 TO 11.30pm – STORIES FROM 8PM

ABOUT THE THEME

We'll be getting real about intimacy of all kinds: emotional, physical, intellectual, experiential, spiritual, or creative. Far from being just a personal need or a private affair, intimacy is a building block of society, influencing its structure, health and progress. We'll hear stories about close connections that lightened burdens or added to them. And explore how intimacy touched, shaped and sustained people through life. Or, in cases gone wrong, we'll learn what it took to persevere, adapt, and begin to trust again.

BUILDING A MOVEMENT OF 'UNITY IN DIVERSITY':

RAWs are nights that feed your soul, not drain your bank account.

Think of it as an honesty system, with tickets ‘from free’, and further tiers of ‘Pay-what-you-can’.

The highest priced tickets offset our free tickets, and make sure RAW is a vibrant event where everyone can find belonging, regardless of circumstances.

We ask that you select the ticket tier that’s within your means. Remember, releasing free tickets to RAWs is a form of revolution for us - not an indication of something thrown together. RAWs are highly curated and tailored to the host space. We are completely independent and boot-strapped to preserve the intention and integrity of the event. So every pound makes a difference.

Together, we can create a world with no price tag on joy, pleasure, and belonging. Where quality of life is a birthright, not a privilege.

    THE RAW ORIGIN STORY

RAW started life among inner circles & word of mouth. An “if you know you know” sorta vibe, before going public. But the backstory of this unique event goes back even further, stemming from WDN founder, Christine's insatiable curiosity and search for relatable, human experiences.

Today, RAWs have come off the streets and away from kitchen tables – and take place monthly in some of the coolest venues across the city, building a patchwork tribe of good humans, doing good things. Find out how you can join the WDN community here

    AccessibilIty Info FROM THE VENUE

"Due to the nature of our victorian pub, our venue is only easily wheelchair accessible on the ground floor only. Arrangements may be made to help access the upstairs of the venue if organized in advance, though we are sorry to say we do not have any wheelchair-accessible toilets due to the age and layout of our grade 2 listed building."

    Menus

    • Cuisines

This event serves Pub Food, Burgers and Roast Dinner food.

    • A word from the chef:

The Old Queens Head kitchen is currently being bossed by burger extraordinaires Lucky Chip. They've been bringing seriously incredible burgers to east London since 2006 and are now taking over Islington with their Kevin Bacon and El Chappo as well as monthly guest stars! You have seriously been missing out if you haven't got your hands on one yet.

    What Does Not
What Does Not is an experience and culture agency with an incubator at its core. We're a hybrid entity that disrupts perceptions, brands & nights out. We combine the functions of an events company, collective, and creative agency. WDN is female founded and led, as well as a social enterprise. We're breaking the mould of average nights out by dishing out the cure to loneliness in cool and vibey ways, while giving a leg up to emerging creators. From immersive storytelling nights, to live music events, panels with a difference – and more – everything we do at What Does Not is designed to be an antidote for this age of loneliness, disconnection, and polarisation.

    Venue

    The Old Queen's Head

A lovely and lively neighbourhood boozer in the heart of Islington that dates back to the 17th Century. They host a wild weekly pub quiz on Tuesdays and throw massive parties every Friday and Saturday night. In between all of this they have comedy, live music and is home to Angel's most buzzing and beautiful…
