Cocktails & Debates: it's simple really. £5 gets you a cocktail & a debate!
"Social media does more harm than good"
What about the recent controversy caused by the misuse of Facebook data?! ... Did you enjoy seeing Zuckerberg sweat? Or did you feel a bit sorry for him?
There is a great deal more to this debate, than how various social media sites, may misuse our data, although that's pretty important!
Are we getting addicted to Facebook, Twitter & Instagram? Are these platforms enriching our lives, or making them worse?
The lofty idea of Facebook might have been to "connect people", but is that actually happening? Is social media making more and more relationships exist online, rather than in the REAL world?
Selfies - what's that all about? Harmless fun, or are we all becoming massive narcissists?
How many likes did your last Facebook or Instagram post get? Do you know? Do you care? If so, why do you care?
Why are you perusing holidays photos of an old school friend, whilst you sit behind a desk, feeling bored? Is that making you feel better? Maybe it is!
How does this all affect our children who don't know any different?
In short, is this all making the world a sadder place, or a happier one?!
Format of the debate:
Informal, "round table" discussion…
The REAL Debate Club is passionate about encouraging more debates, and having more people sharing their ideas & hearing other views in informal environments. Exhibit B, is the perfect venue for this. Recent winner of Time Out’s ‘Most loved local bar/pub + most loved club/party’ as well as Design My Night’s ‘Best all in one in Brixton’.
Unlike usual debates, this debate is about you. If you want to sit and watch, that's fine, although hopefully the relaxed setting will make you want to cut loose and get things off your chest – the yummy cocktails will help!
I've been chairing debates for years at the Lansdowne Club, and at various music festivals, and I'm interested in hearing about what you think. I like to see people either change or make up their minds during the course of the debate...
To see if that's happened we always take a vote, one at the beginning, and one at the end.
It's £5 cocktails until 8pm, so see how that affects your debating skills... and we always carry in the bar afterwards - perhaps you'll meet your new best friend here?!
