For World Bee Day, we are welcoming the highly knowledgable and always entertaining, Tessa from The Bumblebee Conservation Trust to the taproom to talk all things Bumblebee, Pollinator and the Trust.

While sipping on the delectable Wild Flower Mead, Tessa will be talking you through amazing stats like:

Bumblebees are capable of buzz-pollination — a special technique that releases pollen for over 20,000 species of plant around the world, including tomatoes, aubergines, courgette and peppers 🌍
This makes bumblebees one of the most important pollinators, both ecologically and economically:
🦤 Two species of bumblebee extinct in last 100 years, 24 species left in the UK
🐝 8 bumblebee species in the UK are rapidly declining
🌷 90% of all flowering plant species are believed to be pollinated by insects
🌻 300,000 animal species visit flowering plants
🐝 10% of these species are bees, which rely entirely on flowering plants for their food
🌼 60-80% of wild plant species rely on animal pollinators
🌽 1/3 of global crop production relies on animal pollinators
👨🏽🌾 In 2019, the value of pollinators to UK farming was £700 million
🌻 A bumblebee is only 40 minutes away from starvation
🌍 Bumblebees fly up to 6km a day for food - that’s the same as a human walking 10 times around the world to go to the local shops. Every day!
🐝 Bumblebees beat their wings 200 times/second to fly
✨ Our rarest bumblebee is the Great Yellow bumblebee – only found in a few sites in Scotland

Bee inspired this World Bee Day and discover all about our bee-rilliant bumblebees and pollinators

This is an absoluetly brilliant experience. Not only really interesting, but also we are really enjoying doing all the follow-up meading/brewing tasks at home and looking forward to our big batch of home brew, with all the kit that was supplied. The workshop is well organised but also really relaxed and you get to do some tastings as well. The best bit however is Tom, the founder, who did our tour, who is just the nicest man you'll ever meet. Highly recommend this, or if the brewing is a bit much for you, then their tastings tours are great too. And all great value.... London is such an expensive place, and these tours are really good value!
