Sixtyone Restaurant & Champagne Bar London – Champagne Bar Review

Sixtyone Restaurant has now closed.

At long last, the time had come for our eagerly awaited visit to Sixtyone Restaurant & Champagne Bar on Upper Berkeley Street. We were greeted with a smile, and soon enough found ourselves sat quite comfortably, champagne cocktails in hand, grinning at the prospect of an indulgent afternoon at one of London's most talked about restaurant bars.

The Venue:

Located within the ever sparky Montcalm Hotel in Marylebone, we were greeted by a space that most certainly reflects its exclusive postcode. The dècor boasted a quiet elegance, and our chatter was supported by a gentle and soothing soundtrack: the venue boasted a quiet sophistication that was in no way over the top. In addition to the main restaurant, we took a peek at the bar area and a private dining room, an elegant space that is available for private hire.

Elegant and sophisticated, the decor was particularly impressive.

The Atmosphere & Clientele:

Throughout our time at Sixtyone, we were offered excellent service and were doted on by the waiters and Jason, Sixtyone's manager; whilst they were certainly helpful, the staff were in no way overbearing or imposing, a quality that definitely added to our experience. The vibe was relaxed and sophisticated, lacking the pretentious attitude that is so often found in postcodes such as this.

The waiting staff were more than helpful, although not overbearing or imposing.

The Food & Drinks:

We eased our way into our meal with a basket of bread, sweetly accompanied by a plate of home made butter; a delightful entry into our indulgent foray. Our starters took the form of an Octopus Carpaccio, which was beautifully presented as a kaleidoscope of colour and paired with globs of avocado puree, alongside a charcuterie board of finely cured meats.

Our starters were followed by a delightful serving of seabass on a bed of greens and sliced lemon, and a portion of chicken, served with tarragon bread sauce and Alsace bacon. For dessert, I plunged into the Elderflower drizzle cake with sorbet and berries - a dish that was so wonderfully rich that a small helping was all I could manage. Equally as impressive: we were presented with a banoffee concoction, served alongside a ball of peanut butter ice cream and garnished with small caramelised banana lengths, laid out alongside a few toffee popcorn pieces - delicious!

Summary:

A delightful foray into the wonders of Sixtyone Restaurant & Champagne Bar, my friend and I were more than impressed. No doubt we will return to Sixtyone, if only for the luscious macaroons we were served after our dessert and coffee.
