68 is bringing you a special Master of Wine evening with Fergal Tynan!
Fergal Tynan may look, and even sound, like a young Van Morrison but thereafter the similarities end! Fergal has spent his entire career in the wine trade and working all over the world as a winemaker, blender, importer and general Mr Fixit. Along with his great friend and fellow MW Giles Cooke, Fergal founded Thistledown Wines in South Australia. From their small-batch winery in the idyllic Adelaide Hills, they work with pristine fruit sourced from iconic vineyard sites.
Fergal and Giles craft lithe, energetic wines that illustrate the benefits of great vineyard sites and intelligent, low-intervention wine making. They both share a particular passion for Grenache and Shiraz and, in ever more detail, Thistledown continue to unpick the rich patchwork of South Australian reds – reassembling them in their own inimitable style. This unique blend of superb fruit sources and experience in both the New and the Old Worlds helps craft wine of subtlety, texture and detail – wines perfectly suited to complement rather than overwhelm fine food.
