GGs - Review - 54 Great Eastern Road, Shoreditch, London

GGs cocktail bar is a new late night basement cocktail bar, with a Japanese twist. The bright orange door glows from the street. Bizarrely as you descend the stairs, turn left and you end up in Great Eastern Dining Room but turn right and you enter into GGs. GGs is one oval room with sofas and banquettes fitted around the walls and a large oval bar in the middle with couches all around it. The DJ was pumping out funky music and there is a real "in-the-know" buzz about this place. There is also tasty Japanese Robata Grill food from £2.50-£8. As we took our seat around the bar, there was a selection of all the fresh cocktail ingredients spread around in front of you, and it's clear to see that cocktail making is considered an art in GGs. The mixologists take great care, attention and enthusiasm with each drink: The downfall of this being a bit of a wait to get your drink. But, the proof is in the tasting and my cocktail was delicious. I had an Applegrass; Zubrówka, apple juice, liquor 43, ginger, lemon. One of the best cocktails I have ever tasted. If only it was a bit bigger so it could have lasted longer! I love the concept of GloGlo's, with the bar as the focal point and the buzz is built by good music and being able to see everyone in the one room, chatting, drinking and dancing. I did feel that there could have been more of an effort made with the interiors but that doesn't take away from the fact that it's a new and very welcome addition to the Shoreditch scene and I will most definitely be back for my Applegrass fix!
