Whether the inspiration is delta blues, 1940's jazz singers, country or just good old-fashioned life experience, Ma Polaine’s Great Decline is all about music, not any persona, and no dramatics. Sidestepping a concern for genre, the songs are allowed to be very personal, both lyrically and musically, and with a band of carefully chosen people, the live performances portray that honest approach.

“The concept behind Ma Polaine’s Great Decline was not predetermined, we enjoy the space that this allows us. We can write without a requirement to stay within the boundaries of a particular style, and without the desire to fit into a scene."

The lyrics cover veiled tales of love, the joys and pains of the music world, and are told with melodic invention and an emotive vocal, all backed by accordion, blues harp, vaudevillian horns, guitar, piano, double bass and drums. This band is one not to miss. Do yourself a favour and make sure to be there for this gig.
