Best Events in November
Oh, November. While it might not have the sparkle of Christmas, that doesn’t mean it can’t be one hell of a magical month. Winter is coming but there’s a big few weeks choc full of great food, fun nights, quirky events and killer club nights on the way. Say yes to November - and all the treats it’s got in store - with our pick of some of the best events in Glasgow this month.

“It is no exaggeration to say that this is a truly life-changing experience” - which isn’t bad at all for four quid. An event probably best described as “a fun-as-fuck communal club experience”, leave those inhibitions at the door and bring an air-guitar in their place, for an epic club event soundtracked by nothin’ but the greatest songs ever written is on the way.
Throwing a birthday bash isn’t usually Thunder Disco’s ‘thing’, but there’s something about lucky number 7 that’s convinced them to host a huge par-tay this time around. Decking out Sub Club with balloons and bunting, they’ll be joined by Horse Meat Disco, Hammer and Jubé for an epic blowout come Friday 25th, tickets start from £10 if you want in!
If you haven’t already heard of the Hackney Colliery Band, it’s so worth checking them out. Marching up to the stage complete with a seriously talented troupe of drummers, sax, trumpet and trombone-players, these guys bring bundles of energy and feel good vibes to their performances. They’re embarking on a mini tour and this is their only Scottish show, so go if you fancy a night of music that’ll have you slipping on your dancing shoes within the first few seconds.
An event devoted to the finest homegrown drams as well as whiskies from right across the globe, the Glasgow Whisky Festival comes to town this month. It’s to be held from the Hampden Park Stadium, where you’ll find rows of stalls pouring out wee drams to protect against those nippy temperatures. There will also be other spirits, a fantastic array of food and lots of whisky-based gift ideas - so you can get your Christmas shopping sorted early if you want.
When he’s not running to Windsor or bringing poisonous snakes to house parties, it turns out Super Hans is a pretty handy DJ. An absolute must for Glasgow’s Peep Show fans, Hans himself (real name Matt King) has launched his DJ career and is promising “choonz and jokes” from his set at SWG3 on Friday 11th. Keep an eye out for the El Dude brothers in the crowd.
One of the biggest success stories of 2016 is back on home turf for his headline tour this November. Jack Garratt’s debut album Phase has torn it up - Worry has topped 36 mil plays on Spotify alone - and now the London-based singer/songwriter kicks off a run of 16 UK shows with a highly anticipated gig at the O2 Academy on Saturday 5th.
There's no lack of reasons to celebrate the last Friday of the month as it is, but the night of sweet disco beats coming to Hillhead Bookclub on the 25th offers even more of a reason to hit the town. Resident DJ Kev Stevens has featured on the same bill as the likes of Felix da Housecat and Horse Meat Disco and you’ll find him spinning an eclectic mix of disco, rare grooves and old school funky stuff from 9pm; go get stuck in.
Just imagine the scenes inside SWG3 when Julio Bashmore drops Au Seve - it is going to be rocking. One of the biggest house producers in the country right now will be in Glasgow this month for a Friday night to be reckoned with, and we for one couldn’t be more up for it. Cancel your plans for the 20th and go all out at one of the biggest club nights in Glasgow this November.
Skip your diary through a few pages to Sunday 27th, how’s it looking? If you’re after something a bit different, there’s a St. Andrew’s Night Ceilidh going down in Merchant City with the Annasach Ceilidh Band playing a feel-good set fit for all the family. Beginners are totally welcome and you’d be doing some good at the same time; funds raised on the night go to the upkeep of this magnificent building.
