House Of Gods Edinburgh Review: A Luxury Boutique Hotel With Opulent Rooms

Tucked away in Edinburgh’s Old Town, House of Gods aims to feel like a true escape from the everyday, and from the moment I arrived, I knew this hotel stay was going to be a little more indulgent than usual. Dark, velvet-draped interiors, thoughtful in-room touches and late-night cocktails set the tone for a cosy, romantic atmosphere that made it easy to switch off.

Perfect for a special occasion or an elevated date night, it’s one of the city’s most decadent boutique stays, and with my very own wedding planning in full swing, it felt like the perfect excuse to mark one month until the big day with a night away.

Experience Highlights

Bed & Breakfast: ⭐⭐⭐

  • House of Gods luxury chocolate selection - on arrival, we were greeted with a chilled bottle of prosecco and a box of chocolates waiting in our room. While the chocolates themselves weren’t the finest quality, it was still a thoughtful touch that added to the overall sense of indulgence and luxury
  • Milk & cookies - imagine if every hotel stay came with a midnight delivery like this. Having it brought to our room by the butler just before bed was easily one of the standout moments of our stay. As we flicked through the huge selection of films on the cleverly concealed TV hidden behind the mirror, we settled in with cookies, popcorn and sweets, feeling like we were at a grown-up sleepover. The cookies, still warm and irresistibly gooey, were a perfect treat, exactly what we needed after a couple of cocktails
  • Breakfast in bed, complete with morning mimosas - a perfect way to start the day. We woke to a beautifully presented hamper delivered to our door, with mimosas adding an extra touch of indulgence. Inside were warm croissants with preserves, granola pots, fresh orange juice and our coffee of choice. A buttery, flaky croissant paired with a flat white, all enjoyed from the comfort of bed, felt like the ultimate morning treat

Drink: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

  • Espresso martini - a true classic and a personal favourite for good reason. Rich, bold coffee met a hint of sweetness, with hazelnut coffee liqueur stealing the show and adding a decadent, nutty depth
  • Billionaire Girls Club - an ode to Rihanna’s Shine Bright Like a Diamond, with a striking diamond-shaped ice cube taking centre stage. Rich cognac formed the base, layered with crisp apple sweetness and the nutty depth of oloroso sherry. Warming, smooth and refined, this one felt like a hug in a glass
  • Night Clubber - deep, caramel notes from the rum were lifted by the dark, juicy sweetness of wild elderberry, with notes of citrus cutting through with a bright, zesty edge
  • Exploding Drum - a vibrant, tropical mix of tequila blanco, sweet passion fruit, and sharp citrus, delivered a bold, zesty kick

My Overall Experience At House Of Gods Edinburgh

DesignMyNight Review Out Of 5: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

House of Gods delivered on its promise of escapist, indulgent luxury in the heart of Edinburgh’s Old Town. With its moody, romantic interiors, thoughtful in-room touches and standout drinks and dining experiences, it feels more like a curated retreat than a standard hotel stay. I think it would be perfect for a special occasion or a date night when you want something a bit different and very decadent.
