With its quirky floral theme, original and flavoursome cocktails and hearty British plates, The Botanist on Temple Street has easily won over our Brummie hearts. It makes sense, therefore, that the group behind the stellar restaurant, New World Trading Company, have planned a second opening, this time by the canalside. The new venue is as delicious as their other outlets with a deli twist on pub grub, cocktails and even a secret gin distillery.

What do you get when you take an abandoned canalside pub and throw in a brilliant restaurant group? The Canal House, one of Birmingham's most exciting new openings. The team behind Temple Street's The Botanist have taken over The James Brindley Pub, a spot that was popular in the '90s but has lain empty for the past eight years. The new spot is also inspired by the iconic engineer with a Brindley's Brew Room, as well as a drawing room, study and lounge. Beer lovers can enjoy more than 60 types of craft beers and ales from around the world.
