As we enter what feels like week six thousand of lockdown, we reckon that by now you’ve made the pilgrimage to the back of the kitchen cupboards to dig out that shiny cocktail kit your aunt Belinda gifted you three Christmases ago. You’ve shaken, you’ve stirred, you’ve warily sipped on raw egg, and yet somehow it just doesn’t taste quite the same. Mancunians, it’s time to lay down your tools (or muddling spoons) and call the experts. Luckily your fave bars are just a few taps away, delivering their finest boozy concoctions directly to your door (with not a smidge of salmonella in sight).
The clever team at Bacardi have recently launched a brand new scheme to bring some of the UK’s top tipples to your doorstep. Available on Deliveroo, the menu is made up of five cocktails and changes every three weeks. This month? Science and Industry are getting involved, bringing their rum-based The Good Citizen to the table. Designed to get you up and dancing around the kitchen, this sip is a celebration of all things citrus - best enjoyed with a few ice cubes and a slice of orange to garnish.
Another Manchester fave teaming up with Bacardi this month is Cottonopolis. The Northern Quarter bar is dishing out a wholly new concoction, named Apple of My Eye. A punchy mix of Bombay Sapphire, Sauvignon Blanc, spiced apple and Calvados - it’s a wine lover’s dream and the perfect BBQ aperitif. You’ll have to get in sharpish though, as this baby is only available for a little while more.
Also keen to help our Manchester bars at the time they’re struggling the most, Highball has masterminded The Drinks Drop - a not-for-profit scheme in partnership with a whole host of the city’s best-loved bars. The contact-free delivery service is bringing some of Manchester's tastiest sips to your home, and on the bill this month? Our favourite party pizza parlour, Crazy Pedros. Staying true to their all-out attitude, their Capri-Sun style cocktail pouch will be loaded up with First National - a potent mix of smoky mezcal, citrus, chilli and honey. For the full experience? Sup away whilst indulging in an epic Narcos: Mexico binge sesh.
Better known for their killer coffee offering, Grindsmith has recently been getting busy crafting a selection of sweet and dark cocktails too. Also available through Highball's Drink Drop service, their Coffee Mai Tai is a mix of cold brew, Takamaka coco and orange Curacao. It's priced at £7.50, and, if ordered by 3pm, is available for same-day delivery. The ultimate work from home caffeine buzz? We reckon so...
The Jane Eyre
Set up by two Manchester lads in memory of their mum, The Jane Eyre is one of the city’s hidden gems. A dinky spot located just a short stroll away from Piccadilly train station - the place is usually packed-out on the weekend. Also part of the Highball scheme, this bar is serving up pouches of its House Collins to thirsty cocktail cravers between Thursday and Sunday. Drinkable to the max, this baby is made up of Ramsbury Estate vodka, grapefruit cordial and floral maraschino.
Opening just last year, The Edinburgh Castle in Ancoats has already gained itself quite the cult following. Luckily, devotees to this bar are able to get a small slice of the action with an ice-cold delivery of Nature’s Virtue. Like the other Highball tipples, this stirred down drink is priced at £7.50 and available between Thursday and Sunday only. It’ll be more than worth the wait though - made from apricot brandy, hibiscus, and sea salt honey, it’s the perfect balance of smooth and sour.
Speak in Code is answering the call of thirsty vegans with their bottled libations delivered via UberEats and Deliveroo. Not for the faint of heart, the menu here includes chipotle-infused tequila and Four Roses Small Batch Bourbon. Better yet? There’s a whole load of vegan snacks on offer to soak up the booze and cure the morning after's hangover. No wonder staying in is the new going out...
Into the Gathering Dusk
One of Manchester's best-kept secrets, Into the Gathering Dusk is the secret pop-up bar that you need on your radar. While you might not be visiting just yet, uncover the tasty menu with a delivery. There's the Lemon Balm Collins, a popcorn vodka number and the Back to My Roots which pairs bourbon with ingredients like walnut, ginger, parsnip and molasses.
Keeping happy hour alive, Sammy's is rustling up 2 for 1 cocktails between Tuesday and Thursday. Head to the quirky Ancoats bar for takeaway sips including frozen margaritas and lychee martinis. As if that wasn't enough, then there's also Shindigger beers and chicken schnitzel sandwiches to soak it all up.
Is there anything quite like a spritz in the sun? Whether you fancy one in the garden or in the park, get it delivered by The Oast House. Upping your drinks game with their Spritz Kits, the city centre favourite has everything from Aperol party packs complete with prosecco and glassware, to cocktail pouches, pornstar martinis and plenty of beer.
Spreading joy through the medium of cocktail delivery, Riddles has got your quarantini fix sorted. Alongside daiquiris and old fashioned, there's signature sips like the ginger-tipped King Of The Castle and The New Gardener made using tequila, mezcal and chilli. Choose between single serves or batches and order before 4pm for deliveries on Friday and Saturday.
