Jeu Jeu La Foille - Frontal Lobotomy

Description
Bold, witty and surreal. Burlesque maverick Jeu Jeu la Foille fuses original poetry with the tormented lullabies and nocturnal emissions of Tom Waits. If you like sipping dreams through a straw then let Jeu Jeu take you through the woozy mythology, skewed narrative, and embellished truths in this Waitsian debut from a firm favourite on the cabaret scene. Expect gruff puppetry, beatnik burlesque, spoken word and a junkyard orchestra of musical reprobates.
Jeu Jeu La Foille has been a successful silent character on the cabaret scene for many years, but this year is her year to speak. Creator Vicky Hancock challenged herself to study every single female mentioned in Tom Waits’ work, and in doing so has found both the celebration of women and misogyny in his words as well as the long sought after voice for Jeu Jeu. This show explores not only Waits and his relationship with women, but the way spoken word and poetry is performed. Using theatrical mechanisms and her skills in clowning and rhythm, Jeu Jeu La Foille brings these characters to life and takes you into an often unsettling mythological world and delivers you safely back home.
Creator and performer Victoria Hancock is trained in physical theatre, voice, puppetry and clowning (LISPA, LAMDA, Rambert and Queen Mary College, UofL) and recently performed in Italy's first ever physical theatre festival in Teatro Socialle di Valenza. This year she was hand-picked to spend five weeks on a scholarship in Berlin with LISPA.
