Robert Inston(Is) Presents Horrible History For Adults (Or Those That Think They Are)
Edinburgh Fringe Favourite, Robert Inston previews two new historical characters in an hour long special. The first half provides a unique take on the notorious Lord Byron (1788- 1824) in "Mad, Bad and Dangerous to Know", followed by the wit of Quentin Crisp (1908-99) in "The First Stately Homo of England", who unlike Byron ignored convention to a much greater peril than an early death. Byron was able to rock the establishment in part because of his high birth but Quentin had to break out of Surbiton!
Inston empathises and inhabits these fierce lives, fiercely lived. Were they trailblazers of the new modernity and/or insomniacs to a yet uninvented wokeness? Why did they reject an easier and more conventional life? Did they as Quentin aphorised have the charisma that can influence without logic?
