- The Bread & Roses Theatre
Description
It was the tenth year of the siege of Troy the year that Calchas, the soothsayer, had predicted that the city would fall.
The Iliad is set in the middle of the Epic Cycle of Troy. Paris of Troy has already chosen Aphrodite the Goddess of love as the fairest and gained his reward of Helen, the most beautiful woman in the world. Sadly, Helen was already married and her angry husband has assembled a fleet of a thousand ships to sail to Troy, lay siege to the city to get Helen back. All the mightiest Princes of Ancient Greece; Menelaus, Agamemnon, Ajax, Odysseus and the finest warrior of them all, Achilles, now camp below the city walls in their black, beached ships.
Clare Goodall, (Sex, Lyres & Audiotape, The Space, Edinburgh 2012) an award winning storyteller and musician brings to life this epic tale of bloodshed, tragedy and loss in an energetic and punchy adaptation of the Iliad that is the middle instalment of the Clare’s 'Troy Story – the Epic Cycle of Troy.’ It runs for 55 minutes with music performed on a reproduction Ancient Greek Lyre. In it the cast of characters come to life, even if that life then ends brutally in bloodshed.
