OLGA BRAGA

Olga is originally from Eastern Europe. She has been commissioned by the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC), which came about as a result of winning the Adopt A Playwright Award in 2019. As part of Olga’s relationship with the RSC, Olga helped with RSC’s regional community outreach program in 2019. During the course of the program Olga was the co-writer of the verbatim version of Romeo and Juliet based on interviews with local residents in various regional communities. In particular she worked with vulnerable members of the community in Blackpool and Nottingham to help give them a voice and ensure their thoughts were well conveyed in a theatre format.
In 2020, Olga had a new play shortlisted for the Phil Fox Award. The same play was also the finalist in the Traverse Theatre New Writing contest and the Adam NZ Play Award. In 2021, Olga was invited to take part in the Hachette Publishing emerging writers program targeting young playwrights who’d like to write a novel. She was assigned an editor from Little, Brown & Co (owned by Hachette) to help/mentor her to write her debut novel.
Her play Rock Paper Scissors was Olga’s first full length professional production and was produced at the Brockley Jack Theatre, having won the Write NOW New Writers competition (dir. Kate Bannister). Olga’s first play Tightrope Bonnie was shortlisted for the Verity Bargate Award and the Royal Court Young Writers Festival.

When Jack was growing up all he wanted was to be an Taoiseach (Prime Minister of Ireland). Politics was discussed at every family meal and his Father was in local politics for nearly 20 years before getting elected to Dáil Éireann (Irish Parliament) in 2002 where he served until 2011.
Jack concludes as an adult that there was enough jokers in politics and so decided to try become a comedian instead.
Jack loves the romantic idea of being a moral booster , traveling around the world telling jokes and stories to lift people’s spirits. In traditional Gaelic culture , the Seanchai (Storyteller) is the most revered member of the community. Jack thinks being a stand up is a little like being a Seanchai.
Jacks favourite comedian is Tommy Tiernan and Jack probably would not be doing stand up if it wasn’t for Tommy. Tommy went to a similar school to Jack. Jacks old school always play against Tommy’s old school in Gaelic football. Jack thought if someone like Tommy from a similar background to him can do stand up and be good at it , then maybe he can as wel
