Unnatural Predators
The Folklore of Fear with Deborah Hyde
A part of the London Month of the Dead
At Brompton Cemetery Chapel

We enjoy scaring ourselves with tales of weird and unlikely creatures such as vampires, werewolves and zombies. But a few centuries ago it would have been succubi and incubi, demons and goblins. The fear of predatory supernatural entities has been found in all eras and cultures. But why should these ideas be so stable across time and space, and what can this tell us about the human condition? Among other questions Deborah Hyde will ask in her talk are: why do ghosts live in electric clocks? why do vampires visit in autumn? and do dogs believe in ghosts?

Tickets £12 including a delightful gin cocktail.
