In January, The Century Club, in association with ‘The Gang’ is thrilled to be presenting its very own improv night - The League of Contrivance - featuring improvisers from Chicago’s renowned Second City and IO Theatres and from the ‘FA’ (The Free Association) in London.

Based solely on a one word suggestion from the audience, or a brief monologue from a special guest, the improvisers will perform a half hour story which has never been seen before as it’ll be completely improvised on the spot.  There'll be two one hour shows, 7:30 p.m. and 9 p.m.  There are no rehearsals and there is no script.  Improv is raw, exciting, unpredictable, and anything can happen on the night.  Come on down and join our performers as they bring the funny to you to brighten up your winter spirit!

Tickets £8 per show or £12 for both shows.

The League of Contrivance has been produced by The Gang in collaboration with The Free Association (FA).  The Gang’s founder member, Damian Arnold trained at LAMDA for three years and is a veteran improviser of IO Chicago and The Second City.  He performed on Chicago’s improv stages for ten years and appeared several times on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.  Since 2008 he has produced or co-produced over 25 shows in the West End and on Broadway.  His production of ‘Don’t Dress for Dinner’ won a Tony Award, he's a co-producer of ‘The Play That Goes Wrong' on Broadway’, he won an Olivier Award as co-producer of ‘Gypsy’ with Imelda Staunton and other productions include ‘Death of A Salesman’ at The Young Vic and at The Piccadilly Theatre, ‘The Lehman Trilogy’, and ‘A Very Expensive Poison’ at The Old Vic.

The Free Association is  one of the UK's leading improvised comedy theatres and schools. The FA creates hilarious, critically acclaimed comedy shows, entirely improvised and inspired by audience suggestions. Their headline show, Jacuzzi, has been entertaining Londoners and comedy aficionados across the country for over 7 years.  The FA is filled with talented and veteran improvisers many of whom perform on the stage and on television in the UK.

Some of the performers from the FA in The League of Contrivance include Graham Dickson (Graham is a founder member of the FA and has appeared on TV in shows such as ‘Down From London’, ‘All My Friends Hate Me’, ‘Borderline’, and ‘The Witchfinder’),  Naomi Petersen, Sumina Kasuji, Freya Slipper, Alex Holland, Rhys Collier, Sophia Broido, and several others.  A full cast list will be announced soon and we’re hoping for a surprise visit from a very special Guest Star!
