The Abadia Retuerta is a Spanish winery founded in 1996. The estate is situated just outside the border of the Ribera del Duero region in Spain's north-central province of Castilla y León, near the village of Sardón del Duero. Twenty miles east of the city of Valladolid, it lies in wine estates stretching from Tudela de Duero to Peñafiel known as “the golden mile”. Notably, it is just a few miles from Vega Sicilia, a producer. Miguel Gavito from Abadia Retuerta will be showcasing 7 of his extraordinary wines including the first-ever release and offering of their Anniversary 2006. The winery has gained international recognition for crafting some of the most elegant wines in the Castilla y León DO. This winery combines traditional knowledge and modern technical expertise in its meticulous approach to winemaking.
The winery owns 700 hectares of vineyards divided among 54 different plots that are located in mountainous terrains and forests, some of which have been re-planted with native varieties. In just over 15 years, the winery planted over 60,000 grapevines that grow at an altitude between 700 and 850 metres on the slopes adjacent to the winery.
Grapes are always fermented in stainless steel tanks. The malolactic fermentation and ageing are realized in different types of oak barrels, some new and some used. The entire vinification process is very meticulous and extremely precise.
