Enter the cemetery at sundown and proceed at your peril to this candlelit concert amidst the headstones of Brompton Cemetery.
Rip Van Winkle is an operetta by French composer Robert Planquette. It first played at the newly-built Comedy Theatre in London in 1882 and ran for 328 performances. It enjoyed runs in New York, Vienna and Paris and was constantly revived over the next fifty years.
Based on the short story by Washington Irving, author of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, it concerns a man who, after a particularly heavy drinking session, falls asleep for twenty years and awakens to an unfamiliar world.
Gothic Opera guarantee you will not drop off in their presentation of highlights from this long-neglected classic.
Tickets £15 including a delightful gin cocktail and a 20% donation to Brompton Cemetery.
